PAYBACK !! , who are they paying back ? I know, the children who ran through there cities wielding weapons. Or maybe the toddlers who made the plans for removal of complete independance....

Redland, think about it, there is NO situation where this is in ANYWAY excusable...

A press report from Grozny, now please understand this WAR was an unprovoked invasion by the Russian army thats been going on for ten years+ now

"" Every day we see planes dropping bombs on residential areas with complete impunity. Every day we see the bodies of civilians torn apart by these bombs, some without heads, others without legs. Many places in the city of Grozny resemble the section of Stalingrad left unrepaired in order to serve as a war memorial. There was a military hospital next to the building where we slept in Grozny before the December 31 attack. The hospital's head doctor told me that a shell had come through the roof during the attack. Fortunately, no one was killed directly. They had to interrupt an operation to amputate the arm of an elderly Russian woman who had been badly wounded by shrapnel, but they managed to complete the surgery later in a make-shift operating room in the basement. Other patients who couldn't receive necessary treatment because of the attack on the hospital died. By the time we returned to the site, it was too late to see anything -- the hospital had burned down.Boarding school 2 was hit, but fortunately all 43 children were in the basement. None were hurt, and they were evacuated to the village of Stary Atagi. I hope they'll be all right there, but according to recent unconfirmed reports, Stary Atagi has been bombed. Many other Chechen villages have been bombed, including, Urus-Martan which is sheltering more than 1,000 refugees.Anna Volkova, a very old woman, is sitting on the sidewalk with the few possessions she saved from her fourth floor apartment which was destroyed by a bomb. Next to her lie the bodies of her son and daughter-in-law covered by a blanket. Volkova is sitting on a stool behind a small cart covered with a flannel blanket -- passersby leave money for the funeral on it.During the attack, a house on Central Square, not far from the President's Palace, was set on fire. Alexander Pavlovich, a World War II veteran, managed to lower himself on sheets from his fourth-floor apartment to the third floor where he was saved by Chechen militiamen. Neither he nor the militiamen were able to rescue his wife, who was paralyzed. She cried out: "Save me! Save me!" before she burned to death.Grozny's ruins are overloaded with bodies -- the bodies of Russian soldiers. Stray dogs gnaw at the dead.""

Whatever the political background no country should ever submit to the demands of those who commit murder for the sake of their beliefs.

All they want is Russia to stop killing there people and invading their country, its not an unreasonable request is it :jester:

i agree don't we have a similar situation with the israelis and palestinuns? (spelling)

i am not justifying what they have done as it is appalling bringing innocent people and children to ransom but something has to change

So what you are telling us then Redland , is that Chechneya was an independant country (when ?).

The point of this is that rather than attempt to solve boundary disputes via peaceful means , the ballot box etc, these people (loose term for terrorists) choose to bomb, shoot and mame innocents to get a POLITICAL/RELIGIOUS point across.

tell me, whats worse:

A school full of kids being invaded and held to Hostagé?

or

A school full of kids being given a Gun in their hands and told to fight?

Top ones happening in Russia now, the bottom one is happening in countless countries around the world. This is just another episode, not just in Russian history, but in Human existance that bears the FACT that Humans cant live together without war, its happening and it will continue to happen for eternitys to come.

Ok, Redland, colours to the mast time. Are you excusing the killing of innocent people in political/religious arguements ? I do not excuse Russia action in Chechneya, Sadams actions against the Kurds, or Britain/Americas actions in parts of Iraq.

I understand the Arab resentment towards the West, due to complete lack of support for the Palistinians being abused by the Isralis. All of this does not justify ONE terrorist action against SOFT targets ...

On March 17, 1992, a constitution was adopted; it defines the Chechen Republic as an independent, secular state governed by a president and a parliament.

No mate there country was Invaded by Russia,

South Ossetia is a self-declared independent Republic as well. Maybe they should blow up a school in Chechnya as PAYBACK?

the constitution was adopted after chechnya had declared itself independent the year before. so in saying that it was an independent country invaded by russia, you're not quite telling the whole story are you?

I have a horrible feeling we are going to find out that the Russians have f:censored:ed up rather badly. Firstly they only reckoned there were 300 people in there but a teacher who was rescued said the total was more like 1,500. And a pitched battle with potentially a thousand hostages/targets around is the last thing you want. Sadly I feel many of the children in that school will or have already lost their lives :nono:

The chechens have seen their own kids and women killed by the thousand, so in their eyes this is all fair game. I can see the argument and they must be extremely bitter but I dont justify the actions of either side.

Untill the Russians do something to sort out the Chechnya peoblem this kind of thing is going to carry on indefinately. Just like Palestine and Israel, where Israeli soldiers shoot civillians in the name of defense and Palestinians bomb people but are called terrorists, in my esyes I cant really see the difference between either side in both conflicts.

I seem to remember the West condeming Yeltsin for this. And him reminding the West the Russia still had a nuclear arsenal.

I also seem to remember in 2000 an islamic cleric being appointed as head of a Separatist Republic by Putin. Surely this would be a step towards dialog, but no, it is better to carry on killing until you have evrything instantly
