Well we are never going to agree if you are opposed to a ceasefire and in favour of more weapons
what Part of ‘Putin wants to take Ukraine by force‘ don’t you understand? I mean he’s been at for three years and hasn’t give up yet. he’s a bloke who has his enemies chucked out of hotel windows.

I mean, without getting too technical, it’s a shit show.

Some conflicts you can see both sides. You can understand disputed territories, historical grudges, long running feuds. It’s a delicate balancing act to maintain peace. Look at India and Pakistan, living peacefully in perpetual mutual loathing.

This situation is entirely one sided. It’s a bigger, stronger nation bullying a smaller one, who wants nothing to do with them or their war. It’s the big fat bully kid who smells of bacon sitting on the book nerd half his size and giving him Chinese burns.

How anyone outside of those in Russia being fed propaganda and disinformation 24/7 can possibly see this as anything but a completely unjust, malicious and illegal war is beyond me.

One poster on here in particular was spouting literal Russian propaganda. I googled some of the phrases they used - many came back from Russian disinformation X accounts. Word for word, or slightly rephrased.

There are bad actors everywhere.

If you aren’t behind Ukraine, you are against freedom and sovereignty. Or worse, you are an intentional bad actor - be that for laughs, money or worse in a way, ideology.

People aren’t opposed to a ceasefire FFS. They’re opposed to letting Putin repeat his well-established pattern of using ceasefires as cover to build up and start again.

It’s not hard to understand.

Someone breaks into your house with a knife and you grab whatever’s to hand to fend them off. A wooden chair is traditional, I believe. This works for a while but you can’t get them out of the house. They’re landing some blows and you’re both getting knackered. At this point, the trespasser is all like “how about we stop fighting, you put your chair down. I won’t leave but I’ll sit down in this corner. No, I’d rather not get any police involved, you need to just agree to my deal”.

Would you trust them? I kinda think you’d want to see half a dozen coppers with tasers marching in the door before you even think about standing down.

He's a bloke who sent his men to poison people in Britain. Salisbury cathedral spire?

I guess I’m trying to work out how much of this peace plan talk is performative while Europe gets a coordinated spending and rearmament plan underway. If we agree as we seem to that Putin will need to be forced to the table, the latter is much more important at the moment. I wish that wasn’t the case, but the signs are pointing that way.

Well we (Europe) have to act in good faith as if a ceasefire is possible, also plan that it won't happen.

I listened to the house of commons chat on the radio on the way home, and I'm really pleased with how Starmer is handling this. Kemi Badenoch is also on side (not playing party politics about how the govt. will raise the funds needed), and it seems we have no intention of ending sanctions against Russia even in the event of a ceasefire, which is crucial if we're to stop Russia building more capability.

They know Putin can’t be trusted but they can and should try to box him in diplomatically as much as they can.

They know Trump isn’t reliable but they can and should try to discourage any thoughts of leaving NATO or lifting sanctions or seeking deals with various devils.

It's a win if Trump doesn't remove sanctions. I can't see how removing sanctions could possibly benefit the US, so I'd assume serious corruption if Trump were to remove them.

I've long thought that President Krasnov could hand wave away any salacious Kompromat by saying it's AI fake news.

But what if the Kompromat is hard evidence that Krasnov rigged the election ?

That would put Krasnov in jail forever.

Best do what Boss Putin says.

I'm not sure there's anything that could put him in jail. Surely he could just pardon himself?

Thanks, Eric, that's cheered me up. I imagine Ukraine has slowly been building a reserve of long distance drones, and now decide how to best use them 👍.
Timing is important with bavovnas @raymondo. Obviously the flight of the drone should be carried out at night to maximise the chances of the drone or drones reaching their intended target.

Then the dissemination of the news of the bavovna into the public domain should be timed, so that pro-Ukraine readers on social media can enjoy the experience to the max.

I've also found the fire emoji 🔥 It's only taken me three years. Slava Ukraini !

Then explain what the alternative is without the allegories and the aggression cheers.

Option A
Ceasefire and agreement that Russia cannot mine the land they've taken. Sanctions remain while Russia occupy areas of Ukraine. Democratic countries agree that the land is part of Ukraine, currently occupied by Russia, and the land should never be recognised as part of Russia.
Ukraine continue to occupy areas of Kursk, but are not allowed to mine the area, and democratic countries agree that the land is part of Russia, currently occupied by Ukraine, and the land should never be recognised as part of Ukraine.

Meanwhile we help Ukraine build their army and we arm them to the teeth.

Option B
Arm Ukraine to the teeth and help them fight Russia, while increasing sanctions (and punishing any country that helps Russia).

What are the terms of that need to be in place for a ceasefire
There was no aggression intended.

Zelenskyy has been saying loud and clear what’s needed for a ceasefire to work - a security guarantee to deter further Russian attacks. NATO membership is his preference, for which he’d be willing to step down for, but failing that he’d take a commitment from the US directly.

The problem with that is getting Putin to sign up to it. So there’s a need to put Ukraine in a stronger position and Russia in a weaker one so that Putin view the prospect on continuing the war less appealing.

Edit: Triggaaar has listed some more specific suggestions above. Those all seem worth considering from my non-expert POV.

Mmm. I don't see how anything else that Trump has already done to help Putin benefits the US either. I hope to God I'm wrong, but the cynic in me says that Trump does not care about benefitting his own country.
Wasn't there something about US getting 66% of Ukraine's minerals from land Russia occupies? Maybe done a deal with Putin for money.

And I imagine wind direction can aid the drone distance 🤔...I must look into that, or await a reply from any nsc aeronautics expert!

Yeah I should have added about Zelenskyy's call for Nato membership though, that would make sense. Putin has said no to that, so we need to help Ukraine fight until Putin has to change his mind.

Currently we're nowhere near peace.
