No surprise, it’s not a good outcome. Putin gives one concession that benefits Russia as much as it does Ukraine, and a prisoner exchange.

There’s no frontline ceasefire yet Ukraine is not allowed to rearm in that time or receive any overseas aid or intelligence…have I read that right?

I expect Trump will announce he’s cutting Ukraine off again, without even discussing it. I wonder how much Putin is paying him this time.

Edit: different outlets are translating/conveying the Kremlin statement with different nuances. It’s hard to tell what relates to the initial ceasefire and what’s attached to further discussions

Probably benefits Russia more - they seem to have been hit badly by the Ukrainian drones, and clearly want a break from this.

The Kremlin has said it demands no re-armament, but that doesn't appear in the White House briefing. It seems to be related to their requirements for a full ceasefire (rather than the partial one they have signed up to).

The Ukrainian drones will continue, and Europe will continue to arm Ukraine.

The only concern is what the US do - eg, stopping intelligence

There’s confusion about what Russia’s statement is saying.

BBC is implying that no rearmament applies to the immediate 30 days, but this makes no sense as there’s no ceasefire on the front line.

I think DW’s English reporting might be a more accurate interpretation, but who knows…

The Guardian seem to say the no rearmament is for a full-scale 30-day ceasefire, not the limited one just agreed.

I think the BBC are actually saying the same thing?

The desperation to publish first really isn’t ideal where nuanced translation is required. It feels like they’re all refining the story as they go.

I think we can safely say the White House briefing will carry sufficient spin to paint Trump in a good light - rather than admitting that he’s failed.

‘Frank discussion’ …. hmm
At least it sounds as if Trump didn’t just bend over to Putin.
Hardly a big step forward though.
Small concession to stop targeting energy Infrastructure on both sides but that isn’t going to stop the casualties.

We are still along way off a lasting peace.
