I just watched in draw dropping disbelief. And my first instincts are seemingly widely conveyed on twitter.

JD Vance is a f***king tw*t and he alone was the culprit. Zelensky carried the weight of his nation, he stood up for, politely but firmly for the truth about the reality of Putin and his breaking of all agreements, then Vance ambushed him, humiliated him and pushed all of Trumps buttons.

Zelenskyy was still trying to simply answer the BS of Vance, politely and they both harangued him, saying he's not grateful enough.... grateful for US over inflating the value of its weapons supplies and demanding minerals to pay it back.

And Zelensky was right, that maybe the US will feel it back one day, which Trump took such offence against..... If Putin gets Ukraine, he will go for baltics. And when he does its article 5.

One of the most significant news events of our lifetimes and caused entirely by Elon Musks VP plant.

Watch Fox News spin this now. This is about turning US population against Zelensky/Ukraine. 🤬
As crazy as this may seem right now, and you're right that pro Trump media will try and spin it, this could......could just be a blessing in disguise.

The MAGA crowd are already pro Russian anti Ukraine, this may make them more fervent in their pro Russian anti Ukrainianism, but I genuinely believe anyone who watches that, whose either leaning pro Ukraine or neutral is going to side with Zelenskyy.

If Zelenskyy popularity goes up and Trumps/JD Vance goes down, and if the majority see it this same way as we do, It may do a lot more reputational damage to Trump than Zelenskyy.

I have no doubt, most level headed US politicians, even on the republican side, will have been aghast themselves.

JD Vance has just made WW3 more likely by attacking Zelenskyy and platforming war criminal Putin and his narratives.

So Europe will need to double what it provides Ukraine.

Obviously I don't want anyone to profit from Ukraine, but it won't be easy for Europe to absorb all the costs with the US out of the picture, so perhaps Europe needs to do a deal with Ukraine on its resources. Provide all the military support needed to win this war, and get some (not all) of that repaid afterwards.

Disgraceful performance from Trump and Vance yet again.

I always thought JD Vance was a discount retailer. He certainly isn’t a politician.

Neither of them are half the man Zelensky is and if they were leader of a small nation in the same circumstances you can bet their wide asses that they would have fled from their country to save their gutless skins rather than stand their ground.

This from Ian Dunt earlier had slightly improved my mood. But that was earlier.
Europe could replace US contributions by raiding the £151 billion in frozen Russian assets held by Euroclear, the Belgian-based clearing house. Or it could simply spend 0.12% of its GDP. This is a perfectly feasible increase in spending. There is no insurmountable practical obstacle to it, only a political reluctance to do the right thing.

I see Trump is repeating the 'we gave money, but Europe gave a loan and get their money back' BS.

It's not obvious whether he's deliberately lying, or if his cognitive decline is so bad that he doesn't remember.
I'm sure it's deliberate, 100%. Is it perhaps to justify (to maga) his extortion of Ukrainian minerals?

Agree with this but I think the US provides weaponry Europe doesn't have

But there needs to be a European alliance, at whatever cost. 300b should do it over 4 years Russia will have no army left and their economy will be more fooked. This is going to be a big problem, US is no way going to give more weapons, and I suspect US are gonna lift their sanctions on Russia.

Both France individually and EU wanted Ukraines minerals too. Allegedly Ukraine has enough ammo for another year too, though not enough patriot missiles.

If Trump is going to go after EU with tarrifs anyway, this is the time for EU to do the deal with Ukraine, and virtually cut off the US in as much as is possible without needing to formally announce it... Just start to move in a unified european direction without redress to Trump or US.

We dont need their permission, let Trump boil in his own piss with Putin and the democratic free world can do the right thing.

Suspect this might be an unpopular viewpoint, but I don’t think Zelensky handled that very well. Telling Trump what to do is never going to go down well. He needed to play to his ego and manipulate him though it. Like Starmer did yesterday. A lot harder to do in your third language, I fully accept.
