Yes, good point about the division.

Going back a stage or two, but further on in the whole peace process, I'm really concerned about Trump's support for an election.
The aim would be to identify 'irregularities', challenge Zelensky's legitimacy, install a puppet, work on the destabilisation and break the unity of Ukraine, and hey presto, Putin has the whole of Ukraine under his sphere of influence.
Indeed, it's all very fragile. Trump is capable of acting just like Putin, but trump still has some 'respect' (fxck knows why) because he's from the US. The dynamic will change weekly, but Europe has to be 100% strong and united to withstand this onslaught.

Trump and Musk need to be taken down (by intelligent journos?), it's lying in plain sight, hour after hour... democratically, by Congress etc would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.
Too many people in the US are enjoying it as theatre, wondering what's going to happen the next day.
Wake up, schmucks, it's real.
If journalists do that, then they and their media outlet will simply be banned from press conferences and so on. Look at AP with the Gulf of Mexico.

I know you're right. They need to get together and all get banned...except I know they won't, then it'll just be like Putin's propaganda channels

Apologies if fixtures, this thread moves so fast to page back and see 😁. Anyway, there is at least SOME airtime on US TV pointing out what a total scumbag Trump is. It's worth a watch... although Trump supporters wouldn't enjoy the pace and gravitas of the delivery.

Trump doesn't care about humiliation on the world stage and neither do his supporters. They think the USA is the greatest nation on Earth, foreigners are inferior and they don't need anyone else to prosper.

He’s getting desperate is he not.
i read it as trolling. Putin probably understands mineral extracts from Ukraine are a fraction of those claimed, but Trump made it about mineral resources so will throw out something to stir the pot.

Starmer about to make an unexpected statement on security in the house according to the Graun’s live blog
Bringing forward the 2.5% commitment to 2027 and announcing 3% “in the next parliament”. Increases in intelligence budgets.

Cutting the development budget to fund it. Says he’s not happy about having to do it.

My concern with this is if Trump sees Europe protecting Ukraine from his attempted pillage, he’ll throw his weight fully behind Putin.
The European leaders need to keep him on board by letting him think he’s getting what he wants for as long as possible.

The free world needs to point out that America cannot buy resources from stolen land.

I don't believe he is happy at all. There are crucial projects that could be harmed.

...up from the present 2.3%, with the 0.2% additional funding made by cuts in Foreign Aid budgets.
Yeah, it’s not great but we all know his options are limited.

There were statements about “painful choices for the British people”, which is seemed to me to be paving the way for tax increases as well.

Edit: he’s since said there won’t be tax rises. Not sure I believe that’s realistic.

Totally agree with him on this. The world is set to become a very dangerous place at least for the next 4yrs because of Tangoman and his sidekick Tesla Muskateer

Agreed, it’s very much needs must.

It’s also something that the Tories and, possibly more importantly, their media outlets will support.

He’s also just said he wanted to avoid tax increases, which would obviously be very unpopular.

Badenoch attempting to score points. Pathetic.

I think Starmer spoke well, these announcements are broadly welcome.

Less said about Badenoch’s comments the better.

Sir Ed Davey very good, pushing for seizure of Russian assets and, on Trump, “we all agree he should try” but urges focus on Europe.
