I run in the evenings when its very chilly- usually wear a long sleeve dri fit with vest over the top (to be seen) and gym gloves, usual shorts and socks on the bottom half. If you can keep your core warm you should be ok - though gloves are nice... If you run in the rain get a lightweight, breathable rain jacket as well

Hi running guys! I'm training for another half marathon (well, I will be once I get off my arse) and am worried about running in the cold. What do you lot wear for winter training? I don't want to make myself ill or owt.

I tend to just wear what I wear in the summer (a long sleeved 'technical' top) with the addition of a hat and some gloves. I find if I keep my extremities warm everything else stays warm. It might be chilly for the first mile or so but I soon warm up.

I've just treated myself to some winter running atire. My first pair of running tights (got some online and then found some in Sports Soccer on North Street for half the price!) Also got a lumo running Gillet (think that's the technical term) and a couple of long sleeve running 'skins'.

Depending on your budget it might be worth checking out Sports Soccer, dirt cheap 'Karrimor' winter running stuff.

Is it a little bit GAY to say that the tights are the most comfy thing I have ever worn?

Sports direct gas cheap stuff too- this might be the same chain though!

Yeah, bought some cheap Karrimor stuff, including a gilet for £8 reduced from £40, from Sports Direct the other week. Beware, though, that Sports Direct (owned by Mike Ashley) bought the Karrimor name when it went bust a few years back, so the quality is not akin to the well-respected brand of past.

Saying that, £8 for a gilet is not to be sniffed at.

As for winter gear, if it gets really, really cold then I find a long-sleeve skin with a technical top on, er, top, with a hat and gloves does the trick. Maybe add the gilet as well. Used to wear tights, but just stick to shorts now. What was I thinking?

I don't do long runs, but I do try and do 2 miles each workday morning before having a shower and breakfast. I tend to wear a pair of footie shorts, decent ascics running shoes and a karrimore fluoresent running jacket, because the traffic can be lethal around where I live.

I will be purchasing some gloves soon though, as it is getting ruddy cold!
