Yo runners! Hav anyone ever experience SORENESS on the knee. Kinda feels like it's behind the knee. Did a few miles last night and felt it for the first time.....

4 weeks to the half marathon and I'm in NO shape whatsoever!

I signed up to do the Royal Parks Half Marathon but now won't be doing it because I am a lazy bastard who hasn't done any running training. Does anyone want my place in exchange for a donation to REMF?

I went for my fist run in years today. What I can't work out is how fast I should be going. Everyone else in the park was plodding round slowly whereas I was going about 50% faster. Is it better to go fast for a shorter distance or slow for a longer one?

I hated the first two or three miles every time I ran - always felt like stopping/giving up.

Just get into a rhythm, and plod along.

I was not a great music listener, only if I was doing a really long run.

I ran the London Marathon this year (first/last time) and took music with me, but only used it for a very short time - too many people to chat to!

I don't know if anyone knows this but Eddie Izzard has just completed 43 marathons in 51 days, pretty impressive in my book.

Mentally impressive (and a top comic as well)....but he still looked a bit chubby/barrel chested when he ended. I'd be a bean pole if I did the same.

Could be a lot of things but may just be a bit of stiffness. Try running with
a knee support and see if that helps. With the marathon looming you do
tend to feel every twinge.

I'm doing the Loch Ness Marathon in a couple of weeks, my biggest worry is
avoiding all the bugs going round the office

Google ITB / runners knee. Might be the muscle that runs down the side of your thign from your hip to under your knee that is tight, pulling your knee out of alignment and needs stretching.

I am NOT a doctor, this could be utter bollocks.

Indeed. The first few he did in about ten hours, which can't much faster than walking it. Mentally it was an impressive feat as you say, but I did chuckle when I saw it compared to Walliams cross channel swim, which is FAR more of a physical challenge. The proportion of people who die trying to swim the challenge is actually quite scary.

I think my knee was probably stiffness. Testing it out with my longest run to date tomorrow. 12 miles!

Anyone thinking of doing the Brighton marathon next year? It's a week after London, but I've done that one before.

I'm getting badgered into it by various people.

I'm doing it. 10000 signed up, 2000 places left. Bloody expensive though. Running 3 x a week at the moment, usually anything between 6 and 12 miles a time. Started running again about 6 weeks ago, not had a drink for over 3 weeks and haven't lost ANY weight at all. What's THAT all about?
Barnes Green Half Marathon next.

Hmmm - if I can keep the running up, this one will come too soon for me. I've not been doing it very long, and I'm not really built for it, so am working on 5k distances at the mo. Hoping to build up to at least a half mara someday - but we'll see.
