Agreed, but he doesn’t strike me as the type of bloke to make the same mistake 2 or 3 times. Especially when each finishing position is worth ££££
He won’t stress about finishing position for one season in isolation, particularly a manager’s first season with a much-changed squad (that’s been wrecked by injuries)………..key will be his views on the direction of travel.

This is a great post. But just to counter your point. RDZ and (pre-glow-up) GP also had very shit hair.
There is shit hair and there is a shit hair cut.

Unless you're suggesting all three have moved anal and armpit hair to their scalp, Fabsy is in a class of his own.

If anything is going on, in pretty sure he knows about it. But he does have a track record of giving managers time. He also brought in the new assistant to Fab so that's a significant recent addition that would be unusual to back away from now.

Remember how long Hyypia got and rumours were he offered to resign earlier in the year and was talked out of it. Potter was given more time than many felt he deserved. Although Tony does appear to have one weakness which is for the Latin type. It's a combustible relationship but always blows up quickly.
His new assistant is doing a great job

One thing TB will not tolerate is a manager questioning the project and bad mouthing it to the media. If Fab makes that mistake, he will be gone. It seems it’s only Latins that go down that route though.

Time will tell but this has a whiff of history repeating for me, and for the reasons in the post you replied to.

Poyet, a fiery Latin type who revolutionised football in the lower leagues with us, eventually let his own ambitions come above those of the club and questioned the "ceiling". But from the 'we're f***ing brilliant" season to taking a League One squad to 10th in the Championship in season one to occasional thrashings of other teams (Blackpool for example) it was an incredible ride. He was one of the most charismatic coaches in the league and he was grounded by having Brighton legend Oatway with him. He made recruitment mistakes (CMS), gambled on big names (Bridge, Vicente) and generally put us on the map. Then he tried to f*** Tony over and found out.

For the above swap in Dahoud for CMS, Fati for Vicente, Crofts for Oatway, our Euro qualification for the f***ing brilliant season and our Europa League group qualification for the first Championship season (I don't care how weak you think the opposition were, you still have to beat them on Thursday, travel home and play PL football on Sunday). And it all unravelled with a strop when RDZ tried to f*** around with our recruitment and found out.

We replaced Poyet with the introverted Oscar and then him with a gamble from Germany with baffling tactics who could be trusted to say nothing about a couple of recruitment windows that left us considerably weaker.

From where I'm standing that's so similar as to be almost circular. But we probably won't be getting in Dyche or Moyes next, to be fair.

I would say that Oscar also had a bit of the Latin 'questioning the policy' going on but did well with an arguably weaker squad than his predecessor. Sami was far more compliant

Certainly at the end it was clear Oscar wasn't happy but he seems to have been flaky ever since so who knows. But in my analogy I'm currently at the point where we've skipped Oscar and moved straight on to Sami.

I’ve also thought that.
I think TB and PB really struggled to control RDZ in his final few months and wanted someone in who they could control to a far greater extent. Fab says all the right things about the recruitment policy and developing young players.
That’s why I think that Liam Rosenior would be a great option at the end of the season. He’s calm, cerebral and focuses on developing players. He did a good job at Hull, but this season in Strasbourg has been a really good learning curve for him managing a squad of young players from different nationalities and getting the team to 9th in the Ligue one table. 11th position last year.
He’d have respect from the senior players and the love of the fans. He’d also jump at the chance to join us I would think. In the summer (2024) it would have been too early for him but he would now have greater experience.
In Tony’s position I’d want to see how things play out for the rest of the season. See if Fab can turn things around from a playing style and recent results perspective. I expect that his view will be that if results improve it vindicates his style/ communication methods with the players.
If things get worse and the results don’t improve I have a very viable candidate lined up who knows the club, has player development as a strength and would want the job.

What is the process ?
Think this is what irks me the most. I can't see any style of play or any new ideas in the pitch.

We seem to just build up slower, get to the edge of the box and have no idea what to do next.

Under RDZ we had an identity of playing high press, quick transition football. Under Hughton we played defence first policy.

Under Fab, I just don't see anything obvious.

And he promised a much better return from set pieces. Where did that promise go?

So if Fabsy says "Interrogo exertus", he'll be ianuam ostensum est?
