Following all the talk about our need for quick CBs, is he quick ? And I was talking to someone close to Odel Offiah who thinks he is quick.

You see more of these youngsters than most of us, so what do you think ?

Odel is quick, not as quick as his uncle was in his heyday but he’s definitely got those family genes.

Odel Offiah is more of a RB than a CB - he has played CB, but his normal position, both in PL2 and for Blackpool, has been at RB.

Watching him today I think our centre back future is quite secure, not sure we have any need to invest in this position.
He looked very composed when put under pressure and appears to have a maturity belying his age. Well done Ruairi McConville,
When all fit our centre backs look adequately stocked with a decent progression in place. Our club is in very safe hands for the future IMHO.

Norwich seemed to have given up a bit by the time he came on, but everything he did was textbook as you’d want it from a central defender. I hope this is the start of a bright future with us.

I was impressed enough that I would no longer immediately start hyperventilating if JPvH or Webster picked up a knock. I suddenly feel we’ve got cover, albeit it’s a position where it’s hard to give players the minutes to get up to speed while not putting them under too much pressure. The next test has to be against PL opposition, but against Norwich he didn’t put a foot wrong.

I suspect Fab and co were some way ahead of you.

Hmmm.......................I had him marked down for a half season loan (and still think it wouldn't harm his development at all) but maybe circumstances have overtaken that. It would be nice though, if he could do 'a Hinshelwood' (by which I mean move directly and pretty seamlessly from PL2 to the PL, nothing to do with the positions they play).

I’d certainly hope so! :lolol:

He’d sat on the bench for so many weeks without a sniff of any time on the pitch, I’d begun to worry that perhaps he wasn’t trusted.

I was genuinely relieved to see him come on.
His dad and brother flew over for the game today. They expected him to come on at some point.

Man City are spending £50m on something very rare, a good player from Uzbekistan. We’ve got our own version which is just as rare - a good player from Northern Ireland

What I like about him is his name fits perfectly into Rigoleto’s La Donna E Mobile (aka We want our ball back)

However knowing us we’ll probably sing his name to the tune of Tequila, I’m a Believer or something else that doesn’t fit 🤣
Or, how about - 🎶 You’ll never spell that, You’ll never spell that, Ruairi McConville, you’ll never spell that! 🎶

I theng yoo! :drink:
