What is missing from this discussion is the facts about what actually happened between RCB being booked and his booking being cancelled. Without this knowledge, it is really not possible to decern the motives of those making the decision.
It is obvious from the replies that those who believe this is part of the modern-day epidemic of 'cancel culture' have not been swayed by the counterarguments offered. Just as those who suggest that this is actually part of a time-honoured tradition of towns banning stuff that they think will reflect badly on them also seem unmoved in their opinion.
My understanding of cancel culture is that it involves a more concerted effort to ruin the careers of speakers and performers, usually on social media. from what I can see this looks like a hiccup in RCB's career. A hiccup that he has seemingly experienced many times before. One could say that it comes with the territory for a comedian of his ilk, even it can be said that this stuff enhances his reputation and raises his profile.
Hopefully, he can find another venue for his act and the people of Sheffield can get their Chubby fix.
