Just out of interest why would that be?

There is commonality but in my opinion Rounder leaned slightly more towards electronic and dancy stuff and Resident push Americana/folky stuff. If you look at the Resident Picks of 2012 you'll see what I mean.

Yes. Resident champion the bands that Melting Vinyl and to a lesser extent Lout promote. They are selling tickets for Green Man Festival which says it all. However once in store you will find a number of genres are catered for inc dance, electronic. Their under a fiver section is always worth a look and includes stuff that was released only a year ago.

Thanks for this. I think I will go down there and have a chat with them. I'm sure they sell stuff I want it's just that at Rounder I found they promoted more stuff I like and it was more obvious to find. I had also built up trust in their recommendations. I'm probably doing Resident a huge disservice here. I'll go and talk to them.

I was listening to an interview with one of the Rounder guys on Juice, terrible news. I'm not much of a fan of "out there" music (I'm a lazy eclectic!!) but any independent shop going under is a nail in the coffin of the high street. I will go and buy something from there before it goes, just so I can contribute, no matter how little or late.

I am sure you will find them really helpful and with the loss of Rounder I feel it important to support what we still have. Without meaning to sound over dramatic Brighton has lost an important part of its retail make up.

Can I ask what kind of stuff is missing? They get most electro stuff in, I recently got the Mohn, Actress and Ursprung albums from there.

I took a look at their "Picks of 2012 so far" pages and no sign of Sebastian Tellier, the excellent Guy Gerber Fabric mix or the new Hot Chip long player.

I'm sure the have these, it's just that Rounder pushed this sort of stuff a lot more. I guess I just need to go down and talk to the right person. I'm also sure if I tell 'em what I like they'll find me some good new music.

Over there
One of the guys at work put b.b.c 6 music on and Steve Lamaqq was lamenting the announced closure of rounder. He sounded genuinely gutted and from what I could make out was even asking listeners to call in about it.
Rounder was responsible for the beginning of my underground hip hop collection in the 80's. I loved that store, but unfortunately haven't been for a good few years since I moved to Essex. I always loved looking at the latest Graf on the back wall as I stumbled out of the Druids head or Sussex. A sad sad day.
Good luck to all from rounder for the future,

I got both store updates and to be honest there wasn't much between them in terms of weekly highlights. The hot chip one was definitely in there, and the Actress and Talabot albums are in Ami's top albums this year.
Hopefully you'll find something, they're as passionate about music most music buyers and I often see them at gigs.

I am sure I will; I am just feeling a bit fed up/raw at the moment as I have used Rounder all my record buying life. I appreciate yours and Corgi's comments though. Thanks.

Absolutely gutted about this. The staff there had catalogued and made a record of every song they liked since it opened in the mid-sixties. A real Brighton institution gone forever.

Ah gutted, was always nice to have a browse in there when I was down that way. The staff were always friendly, had a genuine interest in music and were extremely helpful.
