I'm surprised at the positivity. Personally I feel played.

I'm beginning to suspect a wee bit of spin. Suppose this:

The chairmen KNEW Revell was going (he knew Southend were chasing) and he largely expected Hammond to go. What would you do to put a positive spin on this? bviously you're going to have to sign replacements but he signs them first to make it look good and progressive then sells. Personally I must say I am annoyed. I rated Revell and I don't believe this Hammond thing. Basically we've outed two proven good players (in my opinion) and bought in two costly replacements (which I'm glad we've bought) But I thought they'd be as well as Revell and Hammond.

If that is the case (highly doubt it), then it is unlikely Revell would have started in the recent games if Dick knew he was probably on his way out.

I'm sorry to lose him but if we manage to get a winger in with the money, then I'm happy. We're not short on forwards.

Exactly, Knight did not mention players leaving when he said about signing five new players.

It was obvious that some would go, especially where a decent fee is involved ......or would you prefer a chelsea style 60 man squad?

Its a shame to see him go, but I think he's replaceable and its a good bit of busiess hopefully we can get a winger in with this money.

I don't blame the club for Savage, he clearly wanted far too much, though I don't know what negotiating possibilities there were. George O'c I am not sure about but clearly that didn't work. But Hammond and Revell we should have kept. (hopefulyl we'll keep Hammond).

If we're going to get rid of strikers, why not clear out Gatting, he's bottom of my pecking order. revell is the man who scored a hatrick (he clearly can hack it).

don't understand this at all..of all the strikers at the club he was probably the 2nd best and was the hardest grafter

How much we gunna get for Gatting then:glare:??? Revell is good bussiness, for 100k-150k we can do better.

I don't think we'd get much.

But I wasn't aware that we needed to get some of the money back from players! That was not the way it was presented. Personally I do think it's spin that they were spending big then would get rid of the players making the supporters think ' oh well, it was our decision, we have betterplayers, we're in control'. And I think it will blow up in their face. They lulled us into thinking tehy were going to start spending etc. False optimism.

I HOPE they prove me wrong, sell Revell, and then we sign another couple or something of the like. Normally I think I would be quite pleased with transfer activities. We've got rid of two players (well basically), but that's fairly standard with Brighton and we've signed two good players! I just thought Albion has turned a corner.

Well I don't think it's a good bit of business at all.

We cry out for players to give 100%, and he did every time he pulled on the shirt, plus I really felt he was striking up a good understanding with Forster, they were linking well and creating goals for each. A genuine partnership was being created, and with Murray on board we had some quality competition for places.

£100-150k for a man who has scored goals at this level, while we pay £300k for a man who has only one appearance at this level, and was immediately shipped out on loan to League Two again. Not sure how that stacks up.

I've never seen Murray play, so he may turn out to be fantastic, but I have seen Revell, and I liked what I saw.

Sad to see you go Alex, but all the best mate.

Rumour is that this Aldershot player is on his way.

If we get him in and perhaps another midfielder (either this Chesterfield one or the other Murrary or another) and one other player (maybe a goalkeeper or striker!?) I think we should be okay. Still not good though. Losing our captain and a promising young committed player.

Very sorry to see Alex go - he never gave less than 100% for the cause. His hat- trick apart, I wonder though whether he really has what it takes to be a successful striker. He always seemed to me to be just short of that extra yard of pace needed to get away from defenders. Still, I hope he proves me wrong and does well for Southend. Good luck, Alex.
