Sorry but I don't buy it that we are a long ball team. Yes there are occasions when a defender has to put his foot through it, and yes we have sometimes gone long when keeping the ball would have been a better option, but look at the 2nd half at Southend. We retained posession and played some super stuff (mainly against 10 I admit).

So there is the DESIRE to keep it on the ground, but winning the game comes first. Fair enough I say

Right here, right now
Yes but how many times have we tried to justify not beating a team of 10 men because "10 is usually more difficult to beat"?

The when we do win against 10 men its a case of "well we had one more player than them so of course we should have won"?!?!

I'm all for free flowing attacking football but I just love it when we win nasty too!!!

Keep the results going and confidence will spread throughout the team, then the free flowing football will follow!!

Surely it should be results AND performance? I don't understand why the two are mutually exclusive. Doncaster and Swansea both played excellent PASSING football last season to gain promotion, so where does this idea that you have to play long ball to go up come from? Its a nonsense. On Friday, we played awful long ball for the whole of the first half and were lucky to go in on level terms. Then in the second half we played passing football and won 2-0. Surely that would indicate the style of football we need to play to be successful.....

Agree with you on that.
As I said, even when they went to 10 men we still had the urge to hoof it. When we got it down and passed it we look great and created loads of chances and forced some corners.

Although it doesnt matter so much when we are not loosing, i think it will contribute to us loosning and not being able to get out of a rut if we play useless long balls

Yesterday was a weird one. The result in itself wasn’t a bad one, a draw against one of the better more organised teams of the league, but the manner of the nonsense and uninspiring long ball drivel came up again - but it got us a result and we are sitting pretty 2 points behind the leaders, still unbeaten.

We looked lost of all attacking force, and I think in the top 15 teams we have scored the least goals.

We have a team full of defensive central midfielders, but not once did they drop to try and receive the ball off the back 4 or keeper when we had pocession. They never even faced them to give them that option. This lead to ridiculous long balls every time.

The only time we tried to play short passing game was in injury time, and from set pieces in the attacking 3rd.

It was a shame to see wuch a poor performance with a huge number of kids and 1st time fans in the ground, but a point is a point, and averaging 2 points a game is pretty good stuff for a season.

I was genuienly shocked to hear the Withdean booboys on the full time whistle, and very angry with Joel Lynch for his non-appreciation of the crowd, after every other sub applauded the South Stand before kick off, except Mr Lynch.
