Why? What connection did he have with Albion? I hate to mention this, but he did take his own life. We have literally thousands of young men out in Afghanistan doing their very best to stay alive. Don't remember no minutes silence for them except on November 11...

Because a man (without doubt one of nicest men in football) who seemed to have everything felt in such an awful place that he had to take his own life makes him not worthy of a minutes worth of your respect. Nice

Growing up as a young child just outside of Leeds when we played football people would always be either Cantona or Speed, I was a little disappointed today at the lack of silence/applaud , as many teams did it that were not connected to him and did it mid week, and I could not go to the Derby game.

All I was saying is that other clubs did it today with no tangible connection to him, you will often have a silence for the next home game after the incident even if there has been one at the away game

Sorry hate to sound a **** here, but in my opinion, no he doesn't.

We dont know the full facts and maybe never will (and maybe all be in a better position to judge if we ever do), but any man who can do tha,t and leave himself to be found hanging dead by his wife and two young sons, does not deserve respect IMO.

Yes he may have been a lovely man, yes he may have been in an awful place (not that any off his close friend saw a thing) but think about the hell he has left his wife and two sons, who I'm sure will never get over finding their dad hanging dead in their home. Do I have symphaty for Gary Speed, absolutely, do I respect him, absolutely not.

Sorry if people don't like that, but thats what I think.

Agree, he may have been a really nice guy but taking your own life when you have a wife and 2 kids is selfish.

Would of been respectful if they done it today aswell for the people that weren't at the game on Tuesday.

Why? He had no real connection to the club or to the vast majority of our fans and as we don't always hold a minutes silence / applause for people who have passed away who were actually connected to the club why should we have been involved in a second minutes silence for him? If we had / chose to mark it, shouldn't the Derby match have been enough (whatever the reason for his death).

I don't understand all this nonsense about minute's silences and the whole poppy-gate, can't other people remember the dead without them or something?

When somebody like this dies then i'll feel sympathy for them and think about their life in my own time, i don't need a minute's silence to think about them.

Besides, people die everyday, kids die of cancer for example, why should Speed's death be treated any different, just because he was good at kicking a ball? + He took his own life.

Saying that, no disrespect to Gary Speed and i hope he rests in peace.

Christ man calm down. He had no connection with the club that's correct but he was a professional respected by everyone and a minutes applause would of been the right thing to do.

I've thought about Speed's death in minute for a lot longer than 1 minute. As a dad of two young children, I am still trying to get my head round it

Me too, it has been in my thoughts all week. Man there are some heartless cnuts on this forum.
