Cruella gone

Should never have got the job back. And while her sacking today is jolly good news, it's also far too late now. Damage has been done.

James Cleverly seems to be heading to the Home Office

... FFS. From everything I've seen, that's not going to be much better. Hopefully not for the same reasons and we might see a change (softening) in rhetoric, but I wouldn't expect any actual improvement in Home Office policy and performance with Cleverly in charge.

You have to be in either House, so I'd guess he'll now take up a position in the Lords (given by convention all ex-PMs can).
I thought ex PMs couldn’t be made Lords or Baronesses until the previous one was? I thought it was why Gordon Brown turned it down?

I always thought that to hold a post in gov you had to be an elected member of parliament, guess I was wrong.
The bloke who dismantled coal mining was unelected. They just pop them into the house of lords.

Brown's last attempt to stay in charge involved bringing Lord Mandelson into his cabinet. That went well

Genuine question as I'm so lost with it all now. I used to remember who held all the top roles as they used to hold them for 4+ years as a time.

Is Cameron (if appointed) one of/if not the first "remainer" MPs to make it into the cabinet post-brexit?

I have no idea, just wondering.

David Cameron going into Downing Street.... WTF!

#deckchairs
To steady the ship with moderates in exchange for a seat on the House of Lords of course! 😛

Theresa May and Liz Truss were remainers before the referendum. They backed what they thought would do them the most good in their political careers, not what is good for the country.
Theresa May went straight into Article 50 as soon as she could, drawing up her red lines. She could have started negotiations and eased us out of the EU with minimum pain, but chose not to, for fear of the ERG.
She was also responsible, before that, whilst Home Secretar, for the Windrush scandal but manoeuvred it to allow Amber Rudd to lose her job. She is as bad as the rest for her comments on queue jumpers. Nasty woman.

I just wish they'd do the decent thing and call an election. This reshuffle is utterly pointless.

He didn't want one though. He specifically said he would turn down a seat in the HoL because was retiring from front line politics and leaving London/Westminster behind.
That doesn’t detract from what I said. No PM should be placed in the HOL until he’s passed on.
