Dick Knight - Mad Man - REMF Xmas auction

Why would anyone need to see a photo of the book before bidding on it?

They wouldn't. But he's trying to SELL something. Amazon wouldn't sell a book without showing what it looks like, would they?

US, if that's the case you should wait until it's all confirmed, then start a new thread with clear details about what is on offer, with photos, an exact auction time of two or three days and ask for it to be made a sticky. You'd get a far better response than just trying to auction something that nobody really knows the details for. A book with a personal message and a meeting with DK is very different to one with a scrawled signature in it that could be from anyone.

I will, just testing the water at the moment.

Not sure what the people who have already bid on the book will think about that! But you should be able to get a couple more signed copies anyway. Do it properly and you'll get a far better response, and no sniping from anyone.

Thanks symyjym. The start date was when the thread started ! the end date was stated, the book can be posted if people really find that necessary, you can pay though jg , bank transfer etc, auction type ? Sorry for the incompetance.
For accuracy that should be "incompetence"...

I have met Dick and he has agreed to do 2 personal meetings with the winning bidder for a coffee and a chat for 45 minutes with him and book signing, questions, general chat and photo's. Date tbc 9/12 or after but before Xmas. I need to confirm the date and venue with Dick but it will be in Hove. So winning 2 bids will get a book, signed by Dick and a coffee and chat for 45 minutes.

So far highest bids £ 40 and £ 35.

Is the coffee included in the bid, do we pay that separate on the day, or is Dick buying ?

"Competence" :clap2:

That is a very decent auction prize and should raise some cash.

Thanks Nick, hope to see you at the Amex in a few weeks when I'm fitter.

Btw that signature would have got you 100 x 18 letter words in an earlier life!

Looking forward to it, hombre. Get well soon.

But you'll be the first to admit that, as you did science at school, you really only know about books full of formulae, chemical symbols and difficult sums.

Nothing difficult about how potential lenders, even RBS pre-credit crunch, would have calculated how much they'd be prepared to lend. It's around £25M so how were we ever going to the fill the £40M or so gap in funding? DK ignores this (again) together with the reason for the convertible loan note for the issue of 30M new £1 shares that was approved by his board in April/May 2007. This was nearly a year before TB took over the club, which was accomplished by converting his £10M+ of loans into equity and agreeing to underwrite all future losses at Withdean, both aspects were achieved by using this facility.

Don't disagree with any of that. As you know, I gave up sums in the fifth year in favour of reading and writing stories!

Do it properly, US, start a new thread with 'Personal meeting with Dick Knight and book signing for auction' or something, put photos and clear details at the start of the thread with clear auction rules, and run it for a two or three days. You'll get a much better response than just tagging it on to the end of this thread.

Why start it again and undermine the current bids worth £75?

It is straight forward and you either bid or you don't, would you take part if a new was thread started?

Because it's now a totally different prize to what it says at the start of the thread. It's now a great prize instead of a mediocre one that most people wouldn't give a shit about. It's now worth a lot more money.

Or we could just keep on half-heartedly doing it with no direction like most of the REMF stuff these days.

I try not to bite I really do. Half hearted am I ?, raised over £ 2600 on my bike ride, 853% of a £ 250 target ( despite your comments ), made £ 160 so far from the Peter Ward sales and done an initiative to get this done with Dick Knight. that should raise a lot more. I may do a seperate thread. What have you done instead of sniping away at every thread ? What exactly ? I am all ears as clearly I am just half hearted about the REMF ?
