I agree. Humans take religion and use it to make rules and regulations.

Best description I ever heard was 'Religion is man made, Faith is God made'

It's all about our own personal relationship with God.

don't you think it a little more fundamental than this, people causing pain or destruction to others under the banner of a religious crusade really believe in their religion and what it stands for !!

hence the problem with Protestants, particularly of the evangelical kind - morality over faith, rather than the 'faith over morality' ethos of the catholic and orthodox churches.

religion is the cause of most of the troubles in the world.
if there was no religion the world would be a better place.

people cling to religion as they believe that if anyting goes wrong in life i.e critical illness ,they need to turn to someone for help.

religion is for weak people.

thers nothing wrong with people believeing in religion as long as they respect others and dont preach it to others.

the bible is aload of rubbish, funniest thing ive ever seen is that episode of Red dwarf, where the find the missing page to the bible saying, 'anyting in this book is purely fictitious,
not too far from the truth!

religion is not a factor of morals, and morals are based right or wrong by the society it is in. Different societies, different morals, many societies that do not have religion still have morals.

I can tell straight away that I'm not going to win you over, Redland! ;)

Where do these morals (in a society) come from then? Who decides that they are "right" or "wrong" in the first place?

Citizens' charters came out way into the middle of the last millenium and were based on religious morals.

Not saying that religion is an important thing that everyone should have or anything like that, just emphasising that the existence of morals is down to religion initially.

redland.

In some ways you are correct, but it must be said that facism is/was steeped in religious fervour, yet facism was the antithesis of tolerance, which is one of the cornerstones of the Christian faith.

If things are going right or wrong, it is very easy to blame someone or something that can only be quantified in faith. After all, no-one knows if a God exists and we will only find out once!!!! No-one has ever come back to tell us if we are right or wrong to believe, apart from Jesus Christ of course, but again that also depends on your faith.

I think it woudl be great shame if when you die, that is it. It seems like a hell of a waste

Popkins...Religion is for weak people.

what an offensive statement

Assuming that the great majority of people in the world hold some sort of beliefs and most of the great thinkers and philosophers believe in the existance of a God, defeats your statement dont you think.

"the bible is a load of rubbish"

In what way a load of rubbish. The old testament chronicles the history of the Jewish peoples and relates stories similar to fables that pointed to the way that the people should live thier moralistic lives.

The New testament is the chronical of Jesus's life and his teachings viewed from the 12 followers he chose. Whilst it is obvious some of the events were embelished and cannot be proved ( or disproved) it is obvious that He was a very powerful person at the time who certainly rattled the cages of the ruling intelligencia by basically stating that people should be nice to each other..If they were looking to some Joan of Arc fugure to drive out the Romans He was not the man.if that is rubbish then......

I agree Dave. Most hospitals were started by believers which is why they were called St Bartholomews (Barts in London) St James in Leeds etc

And schools originally too.

Aid agencies all took their lead from the Red Cross/ Red Crescent

Agree with the first line, not sure of the second.

Some people. Not all. I think most use it for guidance rather than a handbook to life.

Can't agree with that. I think we could all do with a bit of 'outside help' now and again.

Agree 100%. I have my beliefs but nobody knows what they are and I would never force them upon anyone.

you say stop arguing and then come out with a comment that Jesus was a " paul daniels"

And I thought the power of intelligent debate was passed.

Nice one.

very much agree with this. I have my own beliefs and follow them without pushing it on others and I expect the same from them. Next time someone comes to your door, invite them in and tel themto listen to your vies - can be very funny!

It only becomes an argument when either side does not respect the ability of the other to have their own opinion... ie you...

If find your statement below rather odd frankly.....
