Why in God's name would anybody expect us to make top 6 next season?

We might make some signings to strengthen the team/squad, but we're never going to spend anywhere near enough to put us near the top 6 bracket from a wages or signing values point of view.

I swear this is where the idea that the Europa League is some sort of horrifying jinx comes from. Instead of recognising the team making it to the top 7 as unusual, followed by an entirely predictable reversion to expectations the following season, some people seem to think we should be at that level every season despite it not being justified by anything.
My point about expectations is they come from those touting RDZ as a top coach. If he was the genius some have described him as he'd rebuild the squad this summer and overcome the few constraints (injuries) on a top-six finish next season.

If RDZ's contract talks suggest he won't get the budget he thinks he needs, then he has to decide if he stays anyway and continues to comment on how he's being held back by the club policy, or if he needs a different option elsewhere.

I agree, qualifying for Europe was an exception. We shouldn't bet the farm on repeating that regularly. I don't think RDZ sees it that way, though.

Starting to lean towards the RDZ out movement.

He'll probably go in the summer anyway 😎

But he’s not a club manager in the old sense, as explained in a recent Martin O’Neill interview about modern football. The directors and their specialists decide which players they go after and sign, ‘managers’ now have a small say at best. Control freaks Arteta and Guardiola might be the two exceptions, Manure made the mistake of allowing Seven Hag to dictate and he signed a crock of.

New players will be signed for 4 years over a period of 2 or 3 coaches, the Albion won’t allow RDZ to determine a squad rebuild.

He’ll have to work with what the club hands him.

I don't buy that at all.

Martin O’Neill knows more than us.

“In an industry, the changes that I’ve noticed taking place, the owners and CEOs want to run the show. I was a manager of football clubs. I wasn’t a head coach and that is what people are looking for now. They can dictate to the head coach who comes in and who might not, to a large extent”.

That makes sense. A club could buy a load of manager’s players, then sack him months later.

The club has frequently, and repeatedly, stated that the manager has the final say on ANY first team signing.

You're now trying to tell me that the club is forcing players on RDZ he doesn't want. Yep, that sounds like it is true.

The turn is on. Lose Sunday and I think we will start hearing the rumblings from a few more than the vocal few.

Not the same as he chooses from players he wants out of the vast pool out there. He just gets a chance to blackball at the final shout.

Current form table over the last ten matches. Ouch! I knew it was poor but not that poor. Injuries notwithstanding, I think we’re allowed to expect slightly better.

Critical summer coming up. I have no idea what the best way forward is.

You can go back before Christmas and it’s been a very poor run. Yes injuries play a part but the rest of the squad isn’t so poor that it’s this bad

It has been poor and we probably should be doing a bit better. It’s more the personal that are injured and the lack of CM depth and quality coming home to roost that anything. CM tonight and in other recent games has been so easy to play through at times leaving massive gaps to drive into.

We’ve been shite for a while and RDZ has irritated many with some of his comments. I hope he stays and proves his worth. If he doesn’t - he’s just another part of our history but nowhere near legend status. Calls to sack him are ludicrous and from a very, very small minority of course.

Well before Christmas. Our form has been relegation form since we beat Bournemouth on the 24th SEPTEMBER!

And even when we won those games in August and September, I can remember posters, Bozza may even have started a thread from memory, saying we weren’t actually playing that well and had been a bit lucky.

It’s been a miserable league season.
