Why in God's name would anybody expect us to make top 6 next season?

We might make some signings to strengthen the team/squad, but we're never going to spend anywhere near enough to put us near the top 6 bracket from a wages or signing values point of view.

I swear this is where the idea that the Europa League is some sort of horrifying jinx comes from. Instead of recognising the team making it to the top 7 as unusual, followed by an entirely predictable reversion to expectations the following season, some people seem to think we should be at that level every season despite it not being justified by anything.

My point about expectations is they come from those touting RDZ as a top coach. If he was the genius some have described him as he'd rebuild the squad this summer and overcome the few constraints (injuries) on a top-six finish next season.

If RDZ's contract talks suggest he won't get the budget he thinks he needs, then he has to decide if he stays anyway and continues to comment on how he's being held back by the club policy, or if he needs a different option elsewhere.

I agree, qualifying for Europe was an exception. We shouldn't bet the farm on repeating that regularly. I don't think RDZ sees it that way, though.

It has been poor and we probably should be doing a bit better. It’s more the personal that are injured and the lack of CM depth and quality coming home to roost that anything. CM tonight and in other recent games has been so easy to play through at times leaving massive gaps to drive into.

We’ve been shite for a while and RDZ has irritated many with some of his comments. I hope he stays and proves his worth. If he doesn’t - he’s just another part of our history but nowhere near legend status. Calls to sack him are ludicrous and from a very, very small minority of course.

Well before Christmas. Our form has been relegation form since we beat Bournemouth on the 24th SEPTEMBER!

And even when we won those games in August and September, I can remember posters, Bozza may even have started a thread from memory, saying we weren’t actually playing that well and had been a bit lucky.

It’s been a miserable league season.
