All in all was a so-so performance.

Some good points in Alex and most certainly Tommy Elphick.

Some low points in our general play first half and for start of the second.

With regards Forster, we need to play to his strengths.... one time we actually played the ball to his feet first half he showed great touch and played the ball wide to Cox to start an attack. However we mostly just pinged the ball at him which even if he won a header had no real chance of making anything from it.

With regards to Kuipers, he wasn't shit....... but wasn't great either and certainly not the demi god some on here would like to make out. Did not have a good first half and improved in the second after spending some time in the interval working with the keeping coach.

You've got low standards for "great" saves.

One was a good save, certainly, the other was totally routine. He was all other the place whenever the ball was in the air, booted the ball against his own defender trying to clear it, and inspired zero confidence in the defence.

He also looked like he'd spent the summer "working out" in McDonalds. New season, same old Kuipers.

See what i mean by people talking shit.Even Byrne said Kuipers is the best keeper we have had for a while

I cannot understand how or why FDM gets stick. I truly don't understand it.

He;s reliable, instills confidence in the defence, strikers bounce off him, he loves the Albion and makes great saves.

Well he loves the Albion, that's one of five.

He'll need to do a lot better than yesterday to stop Wilkins replacing him.

Kuipers 6 – one dodgy punch, one brilliant save in the first half. Kept us in the game when a second Cobblers goal could have seen us crumble
Whing 6 – looked a worry in a very shaky defence in the first half, but, as with most of the team improved in the second
Elphick 7 – a class act. Won countless headers, got his foot in and good passing to start attacks
Butters 5 – never lost a header, but first-half distribuition was shocking. Was obviously told to keep it simple at half-time
Rents 6 – not impressed with corners and crossing in general. Finally got it right for the goal. More of that please. Sound defending. Maybe could have got tighter for the cross for their goal, but to be fair it was a quality ball in
Robinson 6 – nice touches, always caused problems. Still looks a bit lightweight and maybe should look for an outlet sooner
El Abd 7 – did his job well. Broke up play, sat in front of defence and played the simple pass when needed. Really threw himself around and ran his socks off
Hammond 6 – quality penalty. Went missing for parts of game, but was having a real influence in the second half before injury
Cox 6 – ineffective at times and like Robinson needs to produce more of a final ball. Still excites when he has the ball, though
Revell 8 – not pretty, but very effective. Won countless flick-ons which Forster hopefully will eventually benefit from. Good header for goal. Superb tracking back. An amazing engine. Should have scored another
Forster 6 – partnership with Revell will get better. Really should have scored at the end.

Savage 6
Fraser 6

Wilkins 7 – at 1-1 we looked in trouble. Northampton were obviously better than us and some of their passing and movement was excellent. Earned his money at half-time and showed he can manage because we looked a different team after the break. Apart from a goalmouth scramble I can't remember a chance for them in the second-half, especially after they started to get frustrated. Changed the formation about 10 minutes before we scored. Looked more of a 4-3-3 with Cox and Robinson both over on the left. Won't get any praise from some on here, though

Kuipers today:

Couple of very good saves.
Kicking was very good (previously a weak point).
Couldn't do much about the goal.
Flapped at one cross.

All in all a pretty good goalkeeping performance in my view.I'm sure a neutral would not have seen much wrong with him.

I'm in the minority here. I thought Cox had a good game.

is that the same byrne that said in the phone in that if we bought in a more creative midfielder hammond could do the holding job?

I'm doing first half and second half scores.

Kuipers 6/6 - Couple of flaps, but generally sound. Plenty of communication, you hear that in the libray-esque South Stand.
Whing 4/6 - Hesitant in the first-half (but then, everyone except Revell was), almost allowing them to score, better in the second.
Elphick 5/9.5 - Controversial this and going against the grain here but, even though none of the defence had a good game in the first half, Elphick was caught out of position a couple of times with simple through balls, unbalancing the defence as a result. Truly awesome in the second half, especially when given the job of marking No.23 (a job Butter had in the first half).
Butters 5/6 - Worst performance I've seen from big Guy. Sorry, fella. Won plenty of headers, but his distribution was abysmal.
Rents 5/6 - Poor in the first half. Him and Cox have to hold their hands up for a fair whack of the blame for their goal - both were AWOL. Better second half.
Cox 5/7 - Neglected his defensive duties and ineffective going forward first half. If you can notice a consistency here - better second half.
Hammond 4/6 - Anonymous.
El-Abd 5/7 - Always takes 20 minutes to get going. But when he did, he was one of the better players.
Robinson 6/6 - Tried hard, won a couple of corners, got stuck in. Didn't operate with Whing that well, although I'd more point the finger at Whing, I'm afraid.
Forster 5/5 - Ineffective, two yards too slow - didn't try hard enough to lose his marker. Poor effort for his 1v1.
Revell 8/8 - Was effective, hard-working and tenacious in ways that Forster wans't. His best, most consistent games for us. I think deserved MoM for his 90 minutes good play, rather than Elphick's 60 minutes excellent play.

Fraser 5 - Didn't really have time to make an impact.
Savage 7 - My man. The right man to bring for 10 minutes to clse a game off.

Ref 7 - Seen far worse. Plenty of talking to the players. Good commuincator.
Crowd 3/8 - Always needs a git of a ref or a moaner of an opponent to get us going. After that, we were always on for the win.

That is a bizarre comment even from a "Kuipers can do no right" type.

Kuipers - 7 One punch where he could have caught, otherwise did everything asked of him.

Whing - 6 Not up to the loan spell standards, not a great game.
Butters - 5 Awful distribution, and looked a liability in the first half. Better in the second.
Elphick - 8 Superb, played like a season pro. Strong in the air, and very composed on the ground and in possession. MOM.
Rents - 7 His man was totally free to cross for their goal, but had a very good second half.

Robinson - 6 Looked a bit more willing to get stuck in where he could get hurt, liveliest player in the first half.
El-Abd - 6 Part of a non existant midfield in the first half, better when moved slightly to just in front of the back four.
Hammond - 6 As above, was growing in influence after the slight change to the formation until he got injured.
Cox - 6 Not his best game, always looking to cut back onto his right...

Forster - 5 Disappointing, barely had any service but had two very good chances he should have done better with.
Revell - 7 Won a lot in the air, good goal, should have scored another late on.

Savage - 8 Superb cameo, really looked the part out wide setting up two great chances. Maybe it helped that the game was stretched but he still had to put in the two good balls, and the fact he is so hard to get the ball off, I think he might be worth a longer look on the right...
Fraser - No time.

didnt feel comfortable the way he kept charging out to the edge of the box

he did ok

dont think he looks his confident self but once he makes some of those kuipers like saves the confidence will come back

saying that i do think we need to bring someone in to give him a bit of competition

Forster - 5 Disappointing, barely had any service but had two very good chances he should have done better with..

A good striker would be happy to get 2 clear cut chances in a game, and, would expect to put at least one of them away.Perhaps he was over eager on his home debut.I dont think he offered anymore than Gatting, Elder or Savage could have done.No doubt he'll contribute more another day though.

Savage - 8 Superb cameo, really looked the part out wide setting up two great chances. Maybe it helped that the game was stretched but he still had to put in the two good balls, and the fact he is so hard to get the ball off, I think he might be worth a longer look on the right...
.
Perhaps it was the 2 he scored at Northampton last season but they were shitting thereselves every time he got the ball. You could well be right about him playing wide, especially when we're holding a lead.
