Bollocks. It starts from an assumption that racism is acceptable.

Who's assuption?

Theres a few people who try to define racist attitudes stemming from a a certain context or assumption not realising That in forming that statement they themselves are making some major assumptions.

Not meaning to have a dig when i say this but.......

You may assume racist context from your perception of what is said but you may be living on mars, if you know what I mean.

No its not like saying all American Christians support KKK! I never said anything like that. All I said was, that if you hate one side, you have to hate the other. In my opinion, there are too many people that feel so self righteous because they are all liberal and so against everything right wing, yet when questioned on the opposite side of extremism (like radical Islam), they cower away from the subject and are almost scared of speaking out or even having an opinion due to fear of being racist. I also never said you supported them. Stop reading between the lines and start reading the lines.

Have to agree with this 100%.

If you oppose racism you oppose all of it otherwise you become the thing you most hate..

There are a lot of googly eyed anti-racist zealots who equate racist=white , sadly there are loads in positions of authority(Jack Straw for example).

They are not part of the solution they are part of the problem.

Racist abuse against Turkish people is a reality across much of Europe - particularly in Cyprus, Greece and Germany, where there are significant Turkish populations. Victims are not just Turks, but other people from the Balkan region, particularly Muslims. In that respect, the term "Turk" is used in exactly the way in which the term "Paki" is used in England - which you clearly do understand.

That's why I think it's racial abuse that we are seeing here, and not just a nationality issue.

Turkey is made up of about 6 different racial groups, this has come up before, including Turks, Kurds, Armenians, Assyrians and Europeans.

Turkey invaded North Cyprus and is not recognised by anyone other than Turkey.

Greece is on almost perpetual hostile terms with turkey over Cyprus and treatment of Greek minorities in Turkey, and visa versa. Its nationalist not race.

Muslims are not the sole or specific "victims " in the balkans, in fact quite often they were the agent provocoteur. It was a Bosnian/muslim nationalist who fired the first shot in the war(Killing a serb newly married couple) and the Bosnian leaders nationalist rant was as bad as Milosovich. Serbia is bigger so bosnia got f***ed over.

Albania(Muslim) has quite often expressed exstreme nationalism incorparating Kosova, "Greater Albania".

There all as bad as each other.

I know there's a point in there somewhere...

A word can have several meanings, this is especially the case when a word is used across international boundaries.

The word "Paki " gas been used as a derogatory term for a long time, the word is loaded in the UK with emotion. There is really no need to use the word. With respect how many of NSC's come into contact with Pakistani's, Indian's, Sri Lankans?
Excuse me mate, or Hi! Normally opens up a conversation with anyone what ever the religion, race.

Whether Pakistani's get annoyed at the Australian usage of the word I don't know. Firstly, there may not be an abhorent historical usage of the word and Australian's aren't always the most right on people.

It may Make YOU emotional but what I am trying to say is just because it upsets YOU it may not hold for everyone. It is dangerous to think that all other people would think like you and those that dont are flawed.

You grab me as a "political animal", they IMO comprise about 20-30% of the population thats before you start carving em up into sub political groups.

It is arrogance(#Which most politics is IMO) to pass judgement on millions of people you dont know, dont understand based on a theory of what YOU perceive as "unjust", which is another abstract concept that depends on perception.

I was at Brunel UNi (and unlike dwayne graduated:lolol: ) which is about 20% Asian. I called some of my Asian friends "silly paki's or Crazy paki's". Does that make me a racist?

I am pleased I met all them "brown skinners" at Uni, I learn't a lot about Seikhism, Islam, sub-continent politics, There attitudes to family, work life etc. As well as getting pissed and stoned together.

Of course you dont know all this but you'd be ready to jump to concluisions if I start using the term in the company of "West Pakistani's".

blimey..this is fun!!

My mate , Sanju's family came to Britain when they were kicked out of Uganda ( Black racism) It is quite interesting to hear from him that his family and lots like him have purchased land back in India because they are not convinced the same thing as what happened in East Africa will not happen here!

Dont you think that is an appallingly sad thing to do and doesn't it make you wince a bit!

Reading this thread convinces me - yet again - that what we need in this country is to foster a genuine awareness of what multi-culturalism is all about.

Ethnic identity is not just about skin colour. Cultural identity is not just about ethnicity. Lenny Henry is a Dudley boy, not a brummie, not a Jamaican. Sue Lawley is a Dudley girl. But she hasn't got that much in common with Lenny Henry.

Dave the gaffer is a different sort of Yorkshireman from me.

Idi Amin's expulsion of Asians from Uganda was a persecution that was quite different from the vendettas that his predecessor, Milton Obote, had begun. And Zimbabwe isn't Rwanda.

Racists act as if these subtleties don't matter.

They do.

We need to combat racism. But that's not enough. We need to work at least as hard on fostering understanding.

This is the kind of political arrogance that causes racism.

First we need a clear definition of what it is and what it isn't. Detailed.

Secondly there needs to be a dabated as to wether the people actually want it.

The Libdem council took down StGeorges flags so not to "offend" people in Oldham.
Then lefties squeel no no thats not what its about.

Then another group of lefties do it again...........................

And no I dont want Multi-culturalism.
As I see it and define it.
