Probably were pissed up and just kids. Sounds like quite a juvenile thing to do. Anyway are you sure thats what they were doing? Did you know that in 1996 Police investigated for 2 months racism at the Goldstone, because when the North Stand sang "Seagulls", the police thought it was a Nazi Salute. So stupid!

No they were late 30's early 40's really big and quite scary actually, fortuantly they backed down else we were gonna get a hiding, and its hasn't stopped me going to away games, but i don't go to nearly as many

why we say aussies, argies, frogs and noone says a word but Paki, chinkie is deemed unacceptable why simply because they are a different colour, which in a sense is racist isnt it??

Completely agree. Have no idea why, but only heard the word paki used as an insult anyway.

Am i still allowed to go down the 'chinky' to get some dinner??

Also i call my portable stereo a 'wog-box' because it makes me laugh but not because its rascist.

There is a difference between being pc and being ridculous, we won't be able to say anything soon.

Sorry Captain Sensible, but I'm going to have to disagree. Calling someone of the asian community a "paki" is taking the piss because a) it is offensive (and meant in an offensive way) and b) not everyone from asia is from Pakistan. I have friends who are asian and they would not be happy if I called them a paki. I am not at all pc, but calling them an offensive name is asking for trouble.

Also, don't call black people wogs or chinese people chinkies.

Read the post again properly. Did I say Asian community? Did I say it was Ok to call a Pakistani a Paki? What is Asian? Mostly Chinese. I bet your mates are not Chinese. By saying Asian that is a massive continent. Do you infact know what nationality they are or don't you know. What if they called you a European? I said Paki was wrong aswell but only became unacceptble because of misuse over years. You are confusing nationalities with Race. Which is exactly what I was pointing out.

It isn't offensive, no words are. The point you are trying to make is that you and OTHERS find it offencise.

If blacks find the word ****** offensive its a reflection of your attitude to them wether you use it.

Indians find paki offensive when aimed at them, paki's dont.

Best way to wop pc types is to begin by saying, for example..

How many blacks do you know?

It's terrible because I say I'm going for a chinky. But apparently it's not on.

To Redland about the kids shouting "seagulls". You idiot. Never going to an away game again since? Those kids might have been right about you not being a real fan then. You shouldn't let something that daft deter you.

To those of you going on about the Paki/Turk thing, is that racist? What has that to do with Race? What if they sang, "I'd rather be Pakistani than Turkish"? It's the slang word "Paki" that offends you, not what they are singing. It has become a derogatory term over the years for people from Pakistan (which thick people also called Indians). Are you offended by being called a "Brit" or a Scot a "Scot" or a Swede a "Swede". It is has nothing to do with the race of a person and cannot be put into the same context as racist abuse to Black players or any Black person or any other race even the White European race. It is about a certain country. "Turk" is about Turkish people and the only reason you aren't allowed to say is "Paki" is due to previous use of it by ignorant idiots over the years. You can say Pakistani. I myself would not sing it because I think it's a stupid pointless chant. But to all those that want to use it at a game against Turkish teams I say, Sing "Pakistani" and not "Paki". That'll stump the PC brigade and press that won't have anything to write about on the subject.

Why didn't anyone have a go during the encounters with Germany when English fans taunted the Germans with Songs of Bomber Harris and calling them Nazi's? Someone explain to me what that has to do with Race? It's countries and not race. The England fans chanting abuse at Germans or Turkish didn't do it because of the colour of their skin. They were having a go at all of them regardless of Skin colour. Now thats not very acceptable either, but it isn't racism. Having a go at someone simply because of their appearance, due to their race is Racsim. Try not to confuse that fact.

Well said Captain. What an ambassador you must be on your travels.

oh all right then........"sigh"

the point is , if you use a derogatory word to abuse a person by race, colour or creed, that is racism.

The Paki term was used in a high profile TV commercial for World Series Cricket without offence to the Pakistanies, in the same was as they said Pomms.

we all are racist in one form or another although it is the degree to how we project it that is the issue. To give it the "seig heil " on Trains is rather OTT, but I suggest we all say we are "popping down the chinkie" ( as said above)

In my youth my favourite show on a saturday night was The Black and White Minstrell Show and I had a full collection of Robertson Jam's Golly Wogs. Under no circumstances did I associate this with anything against black people.
