If you read it you'll see why soldier is relevant

It's not relevant in the sense that he shouldn't be judged any differently because he's an ex-solider. You can't make a presumptive notion that because of his occupation he's a nice guy or that he should have special dispensation where others do not.

The OP included the "ex-solider" part in the thread title to make it emotive and make people riled as the connotations of that statement is that they've 'banged one of our boys up'.

Nope, this is called "inciting racial hatred". It's illegal. Nothing to do with freedom of speech.

Your kidding me .......

Freedom of Speech, should be exactly that, not with exclusions, think about what you have said.

You can't even write racist graffiti or stick a pig's head on a spike any more without the PC brigade jumping down with your throat. This country.

Just so we're all on the same page... those that are complaining it's double standards (not that you're wrong, at all) - are you saying that the poppy burners should have also gone to jail, or that this guy should have avoided jail?

Otherwise it may appear that you're also guilty of double standards, saying that he should have been let off and the poppy burners jailed.

Two wrongs don't make a right

FREEDOM of speech allows you hundred million wrongs, that's the point, otherwise it wouldn't be called 'freedom of speech' but 'just 2 attempts of saying what you think before we prosecute you, if WE deem it wrong ' !!!

Trouble is its all one way traffic like the army cadets in Bradford who were spat on and abused for selling poppies or the charity fundraiser who was beat up for wearing a captain america suit.

Burning poppies to commemorate British soldiers isn't then?????

No. The poppy appeal raisies money for injured ex-servicemen and their families. Our armed forces come form all backgrounds incuding race and religion. Burning poppies is an attack on our culture and political system by religious extremists. It's not an anti-white crusade.

What has tying a pig's severed head to a gate got to do with speech, let alone how free it is?

As I said in one of my previous posts they should have Both been jailed.

My comment was on speech, therefore it has nothing to do with speech, but while we at it, the local butcher doesn't call it a severed head so stop falling for the hype.

Its a childish act, that upset a few religious people, so what.

I didn't realise the guy who did this was the local butcher. I should have read it more closely.

It's a deliberately offensive act, specifically designed to offend people of one religion in particular. And, as you admit, not one that has anything to do with freedom of speech.
