I didn't realise the guy who did this was the local butcher. I should have read it more closely.

It's a deliberately offensive act, specifically designed to offend people of one religion in particular. And, as you admit, not one that has anything to do with freedom of speech.

Yes, yes thats it, it is deliberate and that is what makes it a act of freedom and yes yes it offended.

Thats the point.

I have literally no idea what your point is.

Are you trying to say we have freedom to do anything as long as it is deliberate? You've already admitted that freedom of speech doesn't apply... so what does?

Both are abhorrent acts, neither should be used as justification for the other. Both men deserving of condemnation. Quite what is going on with the sentencing though!? I would hope that previous convictions must explain the gulf between the sentences? Both should have been locked up to think on.

Agreed - reading the rest in utter dismay.

You know exactly what I am implying, being offensive is a right, it has to be because too many people like you wish to impose the thresholds.

You offend regularly as I do to, to different degrees, it needn't be an offence even if it upsets us greatly.

Lansdowne Place, Hove
He wrote 'Ragheads out' on the side of the Mosque. That's why he's been jailed. The muslims didn't. They were insensitive but he was racist.

A group of Muslims set fire to poppies. Not racial.
A soldier puts a pigs head and a note on the mosque. Racial.
It's different.

But how is that any worse? That's the real issue here.

Why is what he did worse though. Just be pause racial issues were involved, why does this make it so much worse?

Maybe because burning poppys is not a racial attack, considering the British army come from all different races and cultural back grounds.

Its inciting hatred but cant see how it is racial

And that it was a nail being hit on the head sounds like.

there are european, asian, african, arab, all sorts of races who are muslim. it may be a 'hate crime' (what an orwellian term) but it isnt racial unless you consider muslims a race of people in which case your starting from the wrong spot.

The Poppy Burner didnt plead guilty to a racial crime, he pleaded not guilty to section 5 of the public order act.

What the guy did at a mosque was completely racial.
Do you think what the guy did at the mosque was worse , or likely to cause more hurt and upset than burning the poppies ? That is the question , if so, why ?

No...our military is not all one colour, with many religions represented within it, including muslims.

Also, the poppy is the symbol of a charity. Not a religion.

Muslims are also not one colour or race , with many represented, including soldiers, I will also ask you, do you think what the guy at the mosque did was worse and likly to cause more hurt and upset than the poppy burners, bearing in mind poppies and what they represent mean a lot to the majority of this country.
