My parents were caught up in the brawl between the Mods and the Rockers and the police which features in Quadrophenia. At the time (August 1964), my mum was pregnant with me. Whenever I watch the film, I'm mindful that I was there.

I'm a bit younger. My Mum got caught up in later trouble in 1969 when I was in the pram. Apparently we were rescued by a copper who took us back up the ramp to the Kings Road.

I was an extra in Quadrophenia. ???

Nice one. If you had a scooter, you got £20 per day, and if not, you got a tenner. (not sure about rockers, same deal I expect).

Casting director's name was Patsy Pollock, I spoke to her the day she arrived from the US, after getting her phone details from Goldhawk Productions, The WHO's company that handled PR and etc. (probably still do)

To be fair i'm getting the info from my dad - so who knows how accurate it is! LOL!

He worked on the buses from '65 onwards and says that Brighton & Hove District didn't partially merge with Southdown until 1969. He says that u r right in that Southdown did indeed have green buses in 1964... but the bus that is seen in the film is definitely a B,H & District bus and not a Southdown one.

Something about k-types and crash gear boxes etc. Lost on me...
I could bore you about the 1961 B.A.T.S. Agreement that meant that Southdown ran (I think) 29.5 per cent of the bus mileage in the Brighton, Hove and Shoreham area.

Please don't - remember selling BATS passes as well and even having one myself.

The shape of the bus was too modern to be late 1950's/early 60's which you would expect to see. Seeing a green bus going by on the seafront and you would instantly think of Southdown. Will have a look on the dvd to try and discover what type of bus it was ( I remember going to school on a green Lodekka )

The fares used to be the same on BH&D and Brighton Corporation but I think Southdown used to charge more because they had the "posher" buses.

Maybe that's what dad was getting at... he also says he was in a photo in the Argus on the said day of the battle in May '64 and is pictured jumping off the pier in his rocker leathers...!

Just starting! I have been reliably informed that Jimmy Cooper starred in Eastenders until fairly recently. Bit of a fall from grace!

seem to remember some Man City graffiti (that had appeared in the early 80's) on the cream wall leading down to the beach opposite the Old Ship where the fight with the police took place, something like "Kippax rules".

That wouldn't have been the case. The three companies pooled all the fares revenue. As owner of the Corporation bus company, Brighton Borough Council was involved in setting fares throughout the area (including Hove and Shoreham). It may well have been Brighton Council's wish to keep fares in Brighton lower than fares in Shoreham that meant that Southdown buses charged more - as a way of Brighton residents creaming off the wealth of the people who lived to the west of the conurbation.

No wonder people came from all over to smash up the seafront in Brighton.
