... and then there was Dora Bryan's seafront hotel, which puts in several appearances in the Carry On films.

Pretty sure she used to buy train tickets off me when I worked at Brighton Station in the mid 80s

Slight error in the film in that green buses were not on the streets of Brighton in 1964...

Nestling in green nowhere
Great film, except for the scene when the mods are on their lambrettas shouting out that they can see brighton in the distance, wrong ............it's bloody eastbourne!

Nope, that is shot from the road down from the Dyke, but it is a bit strange that they end up there even from the old A23 they have taken a bit of a detour.

They did manage to get the fact that in the 60's the Brighton Police wore white helmets in the summer.

Sorry but I remember in 1964 getting the 9 or 10 into Brighton from Shoreham or the 31 along the seafront, they were all Southdown buses and green. And I'm sure they were running services to and from Brighton a long time before that.

:)

How soon is now?
Cracking movie, although of course the other error in East St as the riot is going on is the Wimpy, which I was told refused to remove the sign before the fliming.
The scooter outside the Grand was in fact a modern(ish) PX 125 that they'd tried to make look like an old GS - badly

As opposed to the pukka GS on the cover of the Who's album, mind you the album came out in the early 70's so there were probably quite a few of the originals around then. I've still got the original album (when I can prise it back from my daughter !), some great black & white photo's of Brighton, produced just for the album to tell the story.

In London village.
she's in it

don't they show a train that wasn't around at that time and building on the seafront, that wasn't built in the 60's and you can see the tyre tracks of all the pre runs to the beachy head scene.

By the way the album is a classic - better than the film and thats the original quad not the film version.

All true. When they go to the party, they also play "My Generation" whcih did not come out until 1965.

And as for some of the sartorial errors...

At that same party, just as Jimmy is putting the record on, there is an album sleeve on the top of the cabinet. It's a double album compilation of one album (A Quick One While He's Away) that came out at the end of 1966, and one at the end of 1967 (The Who Sell Out). The double album compilation didn't come out until 1974.

To be fair i'm getting the info from my dad - so who knows how accurate it is! LOL!

He worked on the buses from '65 onwards and says that Brighton & Hove District didn't partially merge with Southdown until 1969. He says that u r right in that Southdown did indeed have green buses in 1964... but the bus that is seen in the film is definitely a B,H & District bus and not a Southdown one.

Something about k-types and crash gear boxes etc. Lost on me...

Brighton features quite heavily in Wimbledon, with Kirsten Dunst. They go to the Peter Pan playpark for a while.

However, this is not a good film.
