Probably because his advisors told him to.
He shouldn'y be judged on one single action.
Just because he did charity work in Africa doesn't mean he's not a stupid bastard.

So what if his advisors told him to, he didn't have to do it. And anyway the work he's done amounts to more than one single action. If he uses his position to do good work and get the media out to places they wouldn't otherwise be then that's far more a judgement on his character than f***ing up over fancy dress. He may not be blessed with brains and neither was his Mother but she did real and valuable work for Aids charities. Just because she was a stupid cow doesn't mean that she was a bad person.

It's not more of a judgement of his character, it's a benefit of fame.
To go to a party dressed like that he's show either huge amounts of stupidity or thoughtlessness.
Neither of these are desirable in a representative.
Most 19-year olds with a basic education would see how it was stupid to dress like that.
that said he is only human, but it's just another event that shows the ridiculousness of having a monarchy

I don't disagree with any of the latter of that but surely how a person uses the benefits of fame is an indicator of their character. If he turned round to his advisors and said "Sod Africa I'm going to sit on my arse and do nothing" there's nothing they could do about it. It's very easy for us to sit in judegment about someone we've never even met and damn them for their mistakes whilst scrutinising everything they do because of their position and the fact that it's publicised.

So if others can wear such uniforms, why cant Harry? Should we ban Nazi uniforms and other paraphenalia?

YES, it's an offence in Germany and it's an offence in Italy - it should also be an offence here :censored:

I'm no lover of Germans, let alone Nazis. However, i just cannot see what all of the fuss is about. If people dress in drag for fancy dress parties, does that make them real cross-dressers? ???

Although I don't think any outfit should be banned I don't see why anyone not in a play/film would wear one.

I agree he should go to Aushwicz though.

SO no one has been to a fancy dress as Bin Laden or Saddam. OK it was daft, but lets get it in perspective. A young lad being daft.

On a slightly different note, doesn't it say everything about posh people's parties that the theme was "colonials and natives"?

Not "tarts and vicars", or "Star Wars characters" or "pop stars from the 1980s" like most of us get roped into when it's fancy dress time.

No, these upper class pillocks decide to recreate their absolute most favourite time in history, when the British ruled the world, and everyone else was just a bunch of spearchuckers, who knew their place in society....

What Harry did wasn't the crime of the century, but it does rather reflect a lack of forethought/sensitivity on his part. Not everyone is going to be annoyed, but frankly in his position of privilege, it's his JOB to make sure he doesn't offend.

Otherwise he and his family might as well bugger off and get a McJob like the rest of the country.

I think that is the most sensible and insightful post on this whole thread.

He is just as normal as anyone else in the public eye actually. Like John Cleese in Fawlty Towers for example.

Personally I am anti-Monarchist, and don't believe they should get the privileges they get. Because of this, I also don't think they should behave any differently to us. Many people dress up as Hitler & Nazi's at fancy dress parties all year round, so why shouldn't he?

People also dress up at Vikings who also killed loads of people.

....and Napoleon, and he was a Frenchman to cap it all.

Perhaps Harry was actually immitating 'Nice Mr Hilter', in which case I think he's zer wunderbar .

Sill Harry then he made a mistake.

At least he is a bit of a lad - more in tune with people than most Royals.

Why on earth did`nt he just black up his face and then tell everyone that he had come as ``One of those wogs that Great Granny told us about.``

There would have been none of this fuss then.

I agree with the sentiments in edna's post, this says as much about the upper class pillocks living in Britain today, at a time when we have training days at work to make sure everyone toes the PC line they prefer to reflect on the time when they were at the fore, the 19th Century.

I would not condone for one minute the stupidity of Prince Harry in his choice of outfit, there must have been just one moment when it entered into his head that his attire was less than suitable and that it might just attract the wrong type of attention. His choice of career is a little unfortunate, as a junior army officer he will be expected to earn the respect of his subordinates and lead them into dangerous situations where their lives are almost totally dependant upon his decisions, in turn he will have to rely on them to save his six o'clock. The modern British Army is a multi-ethnic being, recent recruiting campaigns have brought in new blood from the likes of Fiji, the Caribbean and parts of Africa, how difficult will his future career be, given the unfortunate headlines this morning.

Seig Harry, I think not.
