League 2 ended

League Two clubs formally bring 2020-21 season to early conclusion

League completed on a points per game basis.

As it stands, this is how promotion, relegation and the play-offs will finish:

Promoted: Swindon Town (champions), Crewe Alexandra, Plymouth Argyle
Play-offs: Cheltenham Town v Northampton Town, Exeter City v Colchester United
Relegated: Stevenage

Although Stevenage may get a reprieve due to Macclesfield facing a new charge relating to late payment of wages in March and for "failing to act with utmost good faith in respect of matters with the EFL and for breaching an order, requirement, direction or instruction of the league".

They have already had 11 points deducted for previous rule breaches this season and have a further suspended two-point penalty hanging over them if they transgress again, and they are currently 3 points above Stevenage.

Doesn’t seem anyone on NSC cares, statues, racial issues and politics have taken over.

And Covid 19 ! Well despite my misgivings I definitely care. It’s great to read some football. It’s a decent article but a bit speculative. I’m not sure on what evidence they think Connolly is going to make the difference. Hope they are right.

I wonder how PPG promotion affects bets made on League 1 and 2?

Interested as I have a promotion treble of Plymouth, Portsmouth and Fulham!

League1 has followed suit now. Pompey in play-offs.

Promoted: Coventry City (champions), Rotherham United
Play-offs: Wycombe Wanderers v Fleetwood Town, Portsmouth v Oxford United (dates tbc)
Relegated: Tranmere Rovers, Southend United, Bolton Wanderers

Posh fans pissed off I would think "The points-per-game system does throw up one significant change to the League One table, with eighth-placed Wycombe Wanderers replacing sixth-placed Peterborough United in the play-offs."

Just looked that up as you mentioned it. Their next three matches from the point of suspension were against the three sides immediately above them!

That's the neutral grounds idea ditched then-

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...derby-given-go-ahead-to-be-staged-at-goodison

The 236th Merseyside derby can take place at Goodison Park after all, after Liverpool City Council’s safety advisory group met on Wednesday morning and approved a safety certificate for the stadium.

Anfield was also given the go-ahead, which means both Liverpool and Everton can play their remaining games on their own grounds without the need for neutral venues.

Liverpool could theoretically win their first title in 30 years at Everton on 21 June, which was why the national chief of football policing recommended a switch to a venue where supporters might not be quite as tempted to congregate and celebrate in defiance of social distancing rules.

As late as yesterday Southampton’s St Mary’s stadium was still being suggested as a possible venue, though once the Merseyside police and then Liverpool council threw their weight behind keeping the game local most objections were overcome.

The mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson thanked both clubs for making it clear to supporters that their presence at or near the ground would not be welcome.
