Our xG positions and "big chances created" positions are very similar. Funny coincidence when one metric is apparently "shit" and the other "great".

They differ. 2020/21 7th at xG, 11th at big chances created. Watching at games we weren’t a creative force worthy of a European spot.

They don’t nearly correlate. The 3 seasons 2019/20 to 2021/22 our xG was always 7th or 8th, giving the laughed at tag the xG champions and a false narrative that we were just a decent finisher away from glory. The reality watching at games was cringey daisy-cutters, silly weak shots from at best half chances.
But you don't get high xG from half chances. Thats the thing.

People need to make up their mind on whether we tried to walk the ball into the net or if we took 50 shots from the halfway line every game. People need to choose their history revision, they can't have both revisions without looking silly and illogical.

As the saying goes, you can't be half pregnant...

Or the keeper had a worldly excuse, no keeper can make the save if you properly open up the back line and take them out of position. Keep taking pot shots at them and they will look somewhat competent.

I’m questioning xG. When we were inept up front in more ways than one **, xG became a big nsc and media Albion talking point for about two years. We were apparently churning out these European place numbers up front, a fox in the box away from glory days.

But it really wasn’t like that at games.

** there were some interesting discussions about that here. Imho it’s one thing that cannot be blamed on Potter. When a midfielder/striker wastes a team foray forward with a pathetic daisy-cutter, when it wasn’t even a good opening, that’s 100% down to the player.

The NSC speciality in the Amex era. Away keeper for Burnley or Cardiff makes 6 saves every keeper should make, people here claim some were world class. Robbing us of a win.

Thats your very personal opinion obviously. Watching both the games and the data that came along with it, it remains our second best season in the PL imo.
Being 5th in xPTS (means nothing to you because 'I trust my eyes and memory bla bla', but still) and 16th in the league table is unheard of and strongly indicates the issues we had in dealing with the goals. Unfortunately a lot of this came down to having the worst goalie in the league for the first third of the season and the obvious lack of quality up front.

But naturally there are those who don't want to remember us as creative, and those who want to alter history to make it suit their own narratives will always do that.

I remember some of those keeper performances and there were some incredible saves in there.

From memory: Nick Pope, Ben Foster, David Marshall and probably others.

Let one in and we would have won the game(s).

So you’re saying the multiple people on here were all wrong? Bold.

I said in an earlier post we were creative. Using it to contrast against what West Ham are enduring just now (not just today, Fulham’s stats blew WHU out of the water the other day).

Depends what you are expecting this season. Personally think it’s to late to be serious about Europe although nothing wrong with dreaming.
I am just dreaming of being in the mix, not ending up in mid to lower table mediocrity

At least a point tomorrow.
