Poor old Kiernan. Finally gets a start for Chelsea, five months after joining them, and then gets subbed off before the end.

Apart from the Champions League, Wembley and Wroclaw.
Yeah.

Not to mention he's the only goalkeeper in Brighton history to take us to European football. The points per match under Steele wouldn't have been enough.

The funny thing about Sanchez is that despite how everybody says he is shit, he has great statistics year after year and has ended up as the first team goalkeeper in a team better than ours after being deemed to shit for us.

But then again you can't blame people for having a laugh, given that throwing him away also threw away our entire season last year. Imagine what Roma could have been if we had a goalkeeper who can save shots and collect crosses. So yeah we better just laugh about him, feels better than laughing about how the goalie situation looked last year without him.

I hope he has a magnificent career (in Spain preferably) and will stay thankful for him helping us to Europe and bailing us out from Mat Ryans relegation-flirting goalkeeping back in 2020/21, may well have been relegated without him.

If Enzo Maresca decides to put Sanchez on the bench after todays mistake and play Marcus Bettinelli for the rest of the season, I hope we can sign him back if Verbruggen gets sold in the summer.

2022/23

Steele played 15 games - 7 wins, 3 draws, 24 points - 1.6 points per game (PPG).

Sanchez - 23 games, 11 wins, 5 draws, 38 points = 1.652 PPG

Villa (one place below us) got 61 points - 1.605 PPG.

But actually we qualified for Europe with a game to go - where Steele was p14, W7/D3/Pts24 = 1.714 PPG So - the PPG under Steel WAS enough to qualify.

Even if we count the last game - Steele would have been only 0.05 away from Europa League Qualification. I cannot see that you can really say the PPG for the full season under Steele 'wouldn't have been enough' - you cannot tell where the minute 0.05 difference would have fallen, or the context (1.6 PPG = 60.8 points). For instance, Villa were our closest rivals - and we lost at home to them with Sanchez in goal.

And in any case, Villa qualified for Europe as well (in the conference). The next team was Spurs on 60 points - with a PPG of 1.579.

So - the PPG under Steele would have easily been enough for European football, at least at Conference level, and we did actually qualify for Europa League with Steele.
