I understand that there will be a second friendly against decent opposition at Withdean (As well as the testimonial).

On the subject of the testimonial I also understand that is going to be an ultra-competitive affair, which is why the fun and shenanigans are going on in the legends game before the match, rather than in the match itself.

so that should be two decent tests for our team which will give us an indication of how far off the pace we are likely to be, at least in the early stages of the season

Surely the idea of pre-season friendlies is to gradually gain fitness for the start of the season and assess possible triallists.

I would have thought this would be better achieved by playing non-league teams rather than sorting out a 'glamour' friendly.

What's the point in laying ourselves open to getting beaten 6-0 by Chelsea just so Didier Drogba can practice his shooting?

Mind you, Drogba probably wouldn't get a kick against Tank.

dont say that you will have the " Oh its so wonderful going to <insert name of crap local opposition> 's ground"

Nope I just completely fail to comprehend why we are incapable of arranging a decent away friendly and have been for years. I don't count Bournemouth or towns with great pubs as a decent friendly either

but surely we should be PREPARING for the season to come....conversely to your argument, whats the point in putting 5 past Bognor and kidding ourselves we are so good we can beat Bradford at home ( oh we didnt!!!).

reserve football is shite....gatting and Elder score ooodles against reserve teams , get in the first team and the phrase banjo and cows arses comes to mind.

I know its all about the stadium...blah blah blah, but there are loads of foreign teams coming over here...ok Withdeam is shite, but you would get a full house if we could get a decent German or Spanish side down here.

In fact, why dont we try to get a decent POLISH side to play, There are millions of Poles in the South east...surely Legia warsaw or someone like that would include us in their plans if we could fill Withdean.

Fair comment

We need a balance between the two. The big boys will never play us because they can earn more money going to Malaysia! If we can get one more decent side, to go with the Reading game then I think we've done OK

This is true how could I forget the 5 (?) goals they put past us. Didn't Oxford or someone similar do the same? Ok you've convinced me maybe we should stick to Worthing and Hastings type matches

We beat Colchester 1-0. CKR scored.

So did I imagine we got thrashed in a couple of games or was that the previous year?

Why would they?

Surely there messageboards would be FLOODED with people wringing their hands and saying surely they can play better opposition than that?

The results of freindlies don't mean anything. Last season we got spanked 4-1 at MK Dons. When we played them during the season we beat them 4-1.

Why do Brighton and Palace never arrange a pre season friendly seeing as we`re so close down the road. Not as if it will cause much crowd trouble.

our fist game at Gillingham was a friendly against the (then) premiership might of Palace

I still think thata mini tour of Scotland would have been the answer as we have the 3rd Div (our Rymans/Conference Sth))
2nd Div (Conference) 1st Div (Div 2) SPL (Championship except Celtic and Rangers)

So plenty of choice to play a side that is tough to put the defence to the test,(lower SPL) a side that is weak (Scots div 2 or 3) for the forwards to score goals and a Div 1 side to test our allround ability.
