How do you know if you paid PPI and what if you no longer have any detailsm of the loans etc. I have paid my loans off in the last few years but cannot find any info whatsoever. What is the best way to go about it? I had two loans, one with Northern Rock and the other I do not know.

Some quite staggering amounts of money on here - remarkable stuff.

I've never taken any form of protection on any financial product - I feel foolish now - seems to have been a very effective investment vehicle!

nope. post #61 shows what you said, which is very different, and wrong as pointed out.

Jesus, I said profit when I mean interest, ie what you got over and above what you paid in, is subject to tax and was the first to point that out as I am sure quite a few people on here do not know they need to put some of the payment aside for tax. Still sorry it did not meet your meticulous standards.

Where can I find a standard template letter to start a claim myself. I have looked on MSE but cannot find one although I would have expected it to be there. I am sure that I read that most credit cards from years ago would have had had PPI on them so am going to chase those first.

i thought that financial advice was all about being meticulous! i can't see a scenario when getting it "near enough" but clearly wrong would be acceptable to anyone. hey ho

The point is you actually didn't need the PPI, if you had insisted on not taking it there's not a lot they could have done except bluster. Not ignorance, just intelligent enough to fall for their BS.
I know that now, but at the time I needed security and was MISS SOLD it, this is the reason so many people are claiming it back has nothing to do with stupidity, it was my first and only time I had taken out a loan. THEY were the ones insisting I take it out, and who am I to disbelieve them.

The only people likely to do that are the followers of Uncle Spielberg's horse racing tips #GoLarge

My point being interest payable is subject to tax and was just trying to help people so don't need your shit frankly.

Why the f*** do people have to come on here and be obnoxious twats when all we are doing is trying to help others who may be entitled to claim something they were clearly miss sold, all this ' I never needed a loan, or ' I'm not stupid enough to take it out in the first place' bullshit. No -one cares if you never needed a loan, or was too intelligent to take out insurance. Those that did should be entitled to compensation. So do one you c *** s........................ now breathe.

I was trying to help mate and said profit when I meant interest and have been royally flamed for it. Why are some people so aggressive and eager to put people down ? I don't know really but its quite sad.
