Anyone understand why it is only claims for PPI taken out in the last five or so years. What about PPI taken out before the turn of the century? Surely if the criteria is the same????????

You can only make a claim going back 6 years , earlier than that and you've lost the right to claim.

All I done (knowing I had loans previously) is contacted my bank, they have specialised teams set up and they confirmed to me within 2 mins if I had a valid claim or not. Done

Thank you for your insight, in what way is it stupid to take out PPI, if you want the security of being insured? Do you have a mortgage? You have no choice there, you have to have some sort of cover? It is, however, optional on a loan, giving the customer the choice. This is about being miss-sold PPI, which is what happened to us. In our instance we told Northern Rock to remove it from their quote, they refused, saying it was part of their package and could not be removed. As it happened, they were still more competetive than other lenders, so we continued with the loan. I guess it is heavy handed tactics like this that the banks employed, that has backfired on them and now they are having to pay out large sums in compensation.

Yes i have a mortgage thank you. Did not need to take PPI out to acquire a mortgage, only life cover, there is a difference.

PPI claims are all jolly exciting because the bank's are being ripped off. The customer gets life cover, sickness protection, redundancy cover for a few years then claims back the premiums. Bet none of the ones who cliamed on their policies say it's missold!!

Mate...don't go to the Halifax direct. There are people (on here ?) who will talk you through the process of claiming yourself without using a company. I got back £13 k but used a company....do it yourself through Money Saving Expert: Credit Cards, Shopping, Bank Charges, Cheap Flights and more

I'll try to get and have a chat with you tomoz mate

Why wouldn't he want to go Halifax? If that is who the loan/insurance was with contact them.

It's quite simple really if you think you are owed contact the bank you paid the premium to and then if you are unhappy with the response go to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

NEVER ever use a PPI pay back company, they are taking your money to do something that is free and you can do very easily. They should be banned and made to refund the money they have obtained from people.

Claimed back my PPI myself.....go to Martin lewis's website and download the PDF questionaire, send it off to the company involved...simples job done.

I am now 25k better off, money worries gone.

Just a bit of info 'Smirko' some lenders tell the punter if they dont take it, the they wont agree the loan. This is not being stupid but when you are up against it, you will agree to anything to get that loan agreed. Some of us can swan through life without any worries, others don't and it doesn't matter how clever you are, alot comes down to luck

Soory mate, the way BoF worded it sounded like he was just going to book an appointment at the Halifax and go and chat with them about it.

Does it apply to credit cards like the adverts say? If so I might give them a call.

I agree with the people saying stay away from the intermediaries. It's really easy, I've got £3k, £2.5k and £22k (no, that's not missing a decimal point- I'm pretty sure that it's one of the largest settlements to come out of this) for me and members of my family using the same letter I knocked up in five minutes. In fact, I'd be happy to take the personal details out and upload it somewhere for you guys to copy, if needed, but it really is a doddle.

Many PPI had so many get out clauses that you were unlikely to ever get a pay out. Combine that with people that didn't know PPI was included or were told they had to have it to get the loan and you have a scam of the highest order.

So I guess you're renting then - how do you plan to afford the rent when you're say 80 ?

No, I thought this excluded mortgages and just bank loans and credit card insurance

Friend from work went through a company, told him he didn't have a claim, he reckons its due to getting so many enquiries and overlooked him. Went to his bank and got 7k
