I was trying to help mate and said profit when I meant interest and have been royally flamed for it. Why are some people so aggressive and eager to put people down ? I don't know really but its quite sad.

I know but there are aggressive overtones in most threads nowadays. Any Man who has never made a mistake has not lived.
 


I submitted a PPI claim a couple of weeks ago. I've since received a questionnaire which I've been asked to complete and return before they can proceed with my complaint. Apparently it's a standard questionnaire, designed by the Financial Ombudsman. Do I have to complete it, or is this simply a stalling tactic by the company?

sorry but i take that as an insult, at the time i was told that because i didnt have my own house, and was renting then the PPI was absolutely neccessary, so i was MISS SOLD it, to call people stupid is plain ignorance.

It does piss me off that they were allowed to get away with this mis-selling. We have a Financial Services Authority that is supposed to be regulating the industry. I have no idea what they do from day to day as they just seem to sit there allowing this stuff to go on. Its not like its complicated or hidden or anything - I just dont understand why they do nothing while the mis-selling is going on.

Right now - the credit card industry is flogging 'Identity theft' insurance left, right and centre. This insurance insures you against something you are not liable for anyway. It is blatent mis-selling. What are the FSA doing about it? Absolutely nothing. In 5 years time we'll have another haitus and another massive compensation issue. It buggers belief.

Have been trying to find template letters to send to companies I think I may have paid to but have had no success even MSE so will have to devise one myself.

got a call from a friend this morning who's just received £4,860 from Lloyds thanking me for sorting their claim out. It took me 10 minutes to compile the claim and find the right place to send it to ... and a couple of quid to post the claim recorded.

they owe me for the postage and a pint wouldn't go amiss

How is the best way to go abut this and also would Brittania still have records of my mortgage which was until 1995 as I feel sure that I would have paid PPI for that..

if you had a mortgage 'until' 1995 I would imagine it is unlikely that it would have been arranged in conjunction with the type of shoddy insurance product that is currently being awarded redress.
If the mortgage was taken out in 1995 and is still running your mortgage statement may show a breakdown including the cost of any insurance.
Since 1995 there have been a number of changes in regulation (and indeed regulator) that impact both consumer rights and record keeping practices and, hands up, I do not know what your lender/insurer's duty is for arrangements made at that time. If your lender/ original adviser cannot provided full documentation from your arrangement then it is worth contacting your conveyancer as law firms commonly hold their records for longer (I think it's just that the piles of files makes them feel important).
If you identify that you did have an insurance associated with the loan there is scope to claim on a number of grounds. For example but not exclusively: That the insurance was presented as a condition of the loan (where this was not part of the terms and conditions of the loan); that the insurance was not suitable (i.e. 'know your client' procedures were not observed .... this is only appropriate for loans taken out after one of the financial services/ financial services and markets Acts (1990 .... I think))

It's not as complicated as it sounds, find out if you had anything first. Britannia complaints dept is 0844 499 4350, don't kick off at them and you'll probably find they'll be helpful ...... Just give details on when you borrowed from them and ask how to get a copy of the arrangement.

I phoned the number gven and the lady was helpful but said that she couldn't find me on the database and that I should try to find out the account number or write to their head office as they have more extensive records. She thought they would have records and would be able to help.

Has anybody claimed directly with their bank and been successful? i recently got a claim form from my bank, they said i had paid approx £900 on a £5000 loan in 2006, just got an offer of £2100, which i might just take. but why would they offer me much more than i paid?

heard all the forms are on moneysaving expert. heard Martin Lewis on radio saying people are mugs to use 3rd parties.

cheers, it's a shame that the industry didn't have the like you and me when it went big .... instead of money grabbing, short term, selfish arseholes .... we could both be in clover and would have been able to do a lot better for a lot of people.

your comments over the years on topics in this area have pretty much always been bang on

..............but "War Horse" was horse shit :)

How do you know if you paid PPI and what if you no longer have any detailsm of the loans etc. I have paid my loans off in the last few years but cannot find any info whatsoever. What is the best way to go about it? I had two loans, one with Northern Rock and the other I do not know.

Well after my quote above on the 1st June, I found the details of my loans hidden in my loft. I sent of the forms along with a copy of the agreement to Northern Rock and The bank of Scotland. I received a letter from both within a week saying that it would be looked at within 8 weeks. Received a nice surprise today from Bank of Scotland this morning - an offer of £6,334!! This was for a loan that I had from 2002 - 2008. I am still awaiting from Northen Rock.

I have now found the documents from a Mortgage I had with Abbey in 1997, along with two further loans with them so will now do the same with that.

Anyone just thinking about doing it, I strongly recommend doing it and do it yourself direct to the bank.
