Poyet NOT to Reading thread

Poyet is going nowhere, I imagine Reading have made an approach and along the same lines as Poyet wouldn't stop any of his players speaking to other clubs if he felt it was a step upwards, and Tony Bloom is of the same opinion, Gus will no doubt speak with Reading and why wouldn't he ? They are a Premiership club and he has ambitions to be a premiership manager, there is a big difference between someone speaking with a club and someone leaving to become there manager.

I'm sure Poyet has spoken to many potential players, who are willing to listen to what's on offer at Brighton but have decided against coming for a variety of reasons.

For me the most decisive factoring all of this is the input that Gus has had into the long term future of our club, he was fundamental in the planning of the Amex and has been heavily involved in the planning of the training ground, why an earth would he leave the club as we just start the beginning of an exciting future, he has ambitions himself but he also knows all his ambitions can be achieved here.

I honestly believe hand on heart he will talk with Reading (and I don't blame him for that) but I'm also 100% confident his long term future remains with the Albion.

It will be the first time that his obvious loyalty has been demonstrated publicly.

All I've got so far is that bookies are going nuts because the club have allowed Reading to talk to Gus. He did the same with Wolves. Hear what they have to say.

But knowing how stubborn Gus is, I just can't see him giving up on getting us to the prem. He's close and I can't imagine him wanting to walk out with 8 games left and the job half done.

I still think he'll stay.

Sadly, I can. Bit of a strange choice of club to leave us for though, especially with the Chelsea job coming up in the summer.

Gus has chipped away in several interviews about having a restricted budget and only having about the 10th biggest in the division. He also recently quoted how he would have liked to keep Murray but wasn't allowed to because any salary increase could not come out of the transfer kitty. He has also mentioned how he doesn't know how other clubs can afford wages with far lower gates. In summary, I think he's frustrated by these constraints and is hoping that Reading with parachute payments will give him far more chance next season than the Albion.
TB has probably got a bit fed up with the negative comments and decided that if Gus doesn't like it he is willing to let him go with the necessary compensation for the four and half years left on his contract. I wouldn't be surprised if another manager is already lined-up.
My choice of next manager would be Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

Wolves, Bolton and Blackburn had pots of money, fat lot of good its done them this season, everyone thinks that parachute payments are the big savior of clubs... I wonder if it just creates more pressure on the incumbant manager, a few bad results and they get goonered, look at those three clubs for example.

Unless relegated clubs have contract clauses which reduces their salaries if relegated Im sure alot of the money ends up on wages. However I maybe wrong, But didn't Portsmouth do that, tie players to long term contracts ludicrous wages with no contingency for if they went down.

This, I'm afraid, is very naive stuff... Gus will be off as soon as he gets what he considers a better offer. I would have thought that a big payrise and the promise of a massive budget in the Championshp next year might well be sufficient.

I am genuinely not bothered if he goes. We are following the Swansea model and this requires manager changes.

Can't see it happening myself. Having painstakingly built the basis of a Spanish themed team I wouldn't of thought Reading would be of interest. Just hope I'm right!

Of course Bloom would give permission for Reading to speak to Poyet. As stated in other posts it demonstrates that Bloom/Brighton are a club to be valued as an employer because they will not selfishly stand in the way of employees 'bettering' themselves if they feel they are able to do so. This is entirely consistent with how Poyet has treated the players, by allowing them to speak to other clubs when interest has been shown. This lack of selfishness by Brighton is a plus when we are trying to attract anyone to come to the club, be they future managers or players.

Just because Reading have been given permission to taklk to Poyet doesn't mean that Poyet will talk to them.
If Poyet does talk to Reading it may just be a quick conversation out of curiosity.
Poyet may even have an in depth conversation with Reading to get a feel of what the opportunity is..that doesn't mean he's certain to go.
Poyet may use the conversation to enhance his thinking about what his 'true' value is as a manager and use that for future negotiations with Bloom.

I personally dont think Poyet will go. I don't see it as a big enough step up (if indeed it is a step up at all) However, money talks. They may make him an offer that's too good to turn down.

And lastly, anyone who thinks that by leaving Poyet shows a lack of loyalty to the club should reflect on the fact that if we fail to get promoted this season, and we are 14th in the table after 10 games next season, then a sizeable number of fans here will be calling for him to be sacked...

Wish I shared your optimism. If he goes we need another Spanish speaking manager with contacts to help prevent a few of our key players going with him.
