I can see why Gus would want the job at Reading but you'd only take it if you were given a guarantee of the transfer kitty, and there a number of managers who have lived to regret signing after Chairman have promised the earth and delivered little in that regard.

It's a risky game. There will be a queue a mile long to take over from Gus, but the problem now is most will be long-term has-beens; anyone decent is usually in a job at present. I think Gus would be making a mistake by going there because I believe if he really wanted to move he could do better by biding his time, getting us in the play-offs and, if we don't go up, pick up a Prem job in the autumn, i.e. a Sunderland / Norwich-type of role.

This, I'm afraid, is very naive stuff... Gus will be off as soon as he gets what he considers a better offer. I would have thought that a big payrise and the promise of a massive budget in the Championshp next year might well be sufficient.

I am genuinely not bothered if he goes. We are following the Swansea model and this requires manager changes.

Firstly the 'Swansea model' doesn't REQUIRE changes. It had changes as they had successful managers. They didn't get promoted BECAUSE they changed manager. If Gus stayed we wouldn't then choose to get rid because "Swansea changed managers at this point".

Secondly, do you really see Reading as a better offer? They are to be relegated. They have barely spent a penny this season as they have budget restrictions. They will have budget restrictions next year. They will basically be back in the Championship with the team they had previously, which gained promotion via a phenomenal piece of management. They don't have star performers.

Their star performer was Jason Roberts.

I'm biased, of course I am. But I honestly feel we are much better equiped to go up next season with our squad (ulloa) than Reading are if they come down.

If the bookies put odds out for the day the sun goes out some morons would bet on it, they are just generating easy cash for themselves and plenty of mugs are paying up.Some people can`t walk past a betting shop if they have a pound in their pocket

A small crumb of comfort. Oddchecker is showing Laurent Blanc's odds for the Reading job are coming in a bit, he's now as short as 5/1 with Stan James, so a shorter price than Nigel Adkins.

Poyet to Reading thread, massively odds on, (maybe) in talks with them [merged]

That's not in our favour is it? 1/7 is the same as 2/14. So if its 2/9 that means its more likely that his going.
