[Albion] Positives from Today.

I opened this for some positivity- what gives?

We controlled the game but struggled to break down a well organised team that were happy to sit back in a low block in order to restrict out chances. When they started to tire after 70 minutes or so, we created more and could have won it. Sure, we've played better, but I don't see why today's performance was an unmitigated disaster.

The doom merchants continue to say we're going down despite the fact that we're still out of the bottom 3. I'm not sure why they think the teams below us will outperform us over the rest of the season. Based on today's evidence, Watford aren't all that. We know that West ham, Villa and Bournemouth aren't either, plus Palace are on the slide.

We deserve to be more stylish and clinical and not to look like we are in a relegation scrap apparently or Potter can feck off, we are becoming more and more entitled sadly.

The team are nervous, the crowd nervous and quick to go silent, we are lacking a cutting edge and confidence is shot. We are however still fighting, not sure why all this is such a surprise given we have struggled badly for two seasons now. Chances are we’ll continue to struggle next season even if we stay up, it’s what the also rans in the PL do

The fish pie in HB’s had lots of fish in it. A bit salty, but it was ok.

I had a nice chat with my mum.

I got to tell Rollo that he scored the first professional goal I ever saw live.

Dreadful game overall but main positive is that hopefully it confirmed a few things to the manager going forward:

1) He is right to go with Webster over Duffy. We badly missed Webster on the ball today and Duffy was hopeless with and without it;
2) That Maupay has to start every game;
3) Gross needs a long break away from playing. One of the worst individual performances I can remember from a Brighton player, certainly in the premier league, and he has been dire all season apart from set pieces;
4) Mooy has to be played in his correct position further forward or not at all;
5) Bernardo needs to start every game left back or left wing back. Strange decision to drop him when he’s been one of our better performers recently. If he thinks Burn needs to come into the side, play him centre back in a 2 or 3;
6) Alzate needs to play more;
7) Trossard should start as he is a quality player but he needs bodies around him to play off like the 2nd half. When he’s isolated as in the first half, he’s next to useless.

I’m in agreement with most of this, although with regards to point 2 I think that has more to do with us not having a decent enough alternative, although I prefer Connolly as a player personally (I just think he’s very raw).

With regards to point 1, I don’t think Duffy’s been good at all when he’s played this season. Their goal was his fault yesterday and his inability to drive forward with the ball against a packed defence slowed our build up play down a lot.

The other positives I’d add are Propper and March. I wasn’t keen on moving March to left back (although I get why he did it) as I felt it moved our best attacker out of his best position. I’d have preferred to keep a March where he was and just brought Bernardo on as you suggest. Propper also dictated much of the game, often under immense pressure from their midfielders, especially when you consider how Mooy struggled for much of both halves.

Pretty irksome in a thread discussing positives that some just can't help themselves writing lists of (unrelated) negative points.

Who do you think is reading this thread thinking "I wish I were reading more negatives"?

Stop it!

If anyone thinks todays level of performance is good enough to beat the likes of Sheffield Utd they are deluded. I loved the Potter revolution in style but the performance level now is unrecognisable from earlier in the season. We are neither playing good football nor winning.

There seems to be a total lack of confidence amongst the players who have reverted to looking for a back pass as 1st option. Passes contiually go astray leading either to goals or end of promising moves.

GP seems to me at the moment slightly in denial. Personally I think he needs to decide on a settled side and give them a run of games so they thoroughly understand each other.

I would start with the team that finished todays game but in a sense it doesnt matter as long as he settles on his own preferred 11 and sticks with them.

You’d start the team that finished the game with only two recognised defenders in it? Crikey...

He looks good and pleases the crowd but doesn't produce enough to warrant a place in the side ie pretty but not effective which may be due to age and inexperience

He will get older sitting on the bench. But not much experience :smile:

edit : Already been mentioned.

H e will gain experience coming off of then bench as required, but for me he doesn't offer enough yet to warrant a starting spot., although since he signed permanently Mooy has looked below par, so perhaps it is his place up for grabs.

I'd agree with him in so far as Schellotto, Burn and Gross were replaced by Alzate, Jakanbash and Maupay because I don't want a player who is so below the required standard, a centre back playing left back and a player massively off form.

Ideally the full backs should be recognised full backs.

It was noticeable how the left side was bottled up because Burn hasn't got the pace or dribbling to attack and the right side we got free but Schelotto wasted the opportunities.

Also Gross and Mooy were holding hands in the same position.

I think that’s a very brave move against this Sheff Utd side. But I’m game. I mean we don’t have a ton to lose aside form our Premier League status

dont matter
Hopefully the players learnt that if you repeatedly keep trying to waltz through Watford’s 2 banks of four and are getting no joy, then getting the ball wide and crossing early is the best chance of scoring.

There are no positives. We were dreadful and probably will be again next time out. It’s just a question now of finishing second from bottom rather than the wooden spoon which hopefully Norwich will hang onto. Fail to prepare, eg January window, prepare to fail.

The two positives for me..

1) picking up a point we probably didn't deserve ( reversing the trend from earlier in the season)
2) I picked up my second correct prediction of the season

A thread of positives!

1, 3, 4, 6 and your summary are slagging the club off.

With 10 posts, you’re not Albion are you, yalls?
Its not slagging, just stating reality. There are not many positives about BHA.

And BHAs reality does not look so bright with the way the table stands now.

But in the sprit of the thread my positive for today is that the Amex sure looked nice.
