He is truly a class player in the making, and the best thing to come from the u23s to date by miles (and I’m including Connolly in that too)

Having just got back from the match, I'm slightly surprised at the level of vitriol regarding our performance. Granted, we were hardly incisive but we still largely bossed the match, restricted the opposition to almost nothing and showed good, honest grit to fight our way back into the game.

I honestly think that our players, honest pros that they are, are right on the limit of what you can get away with in the Premier League. This is a supremely difficult division to remain in and our squad simply isn't strong enough to make much headway. Potter has had one transfer window, during which time we have acquired two very interesting young talents (I know McAlister was ours already but you know what I mean).

We're trying to steadily build an infrastructure that will allow us to embed ourselves in the Premier League without risking financial ruin. I'm still excited to think what Potter can achieve when we've the players who can find that ball that allow our forwards to run onto them rather than receiving it with their backs to goal

I couldn’t agree more. We are only 4 points behind Arsenal in 10th place! Yes it is frustrating at times but definitely think we are heading in the right direction.

Agree totally. We were much better than a poor Watford - bossed the game and they resorted to time wasting even at 1-1 which says a lot. We didn’t create anywhere near enough but we threw everything at it 2nd half. All us 2nd half they created nothing at all.

I know it looks like Potter doesn’t know his best team, but I think today (and to a degree the West Ham match) was simply a case of a bit of pragmatism. Those were two games where we HAD to avoid defeat. OK, we need a few victories, but the fact that we didn’t lose today was really important.
We can be more expansive, and no doubt return to something more like “Potterball” at Sheffield United and home to Arsenal.

In the last 12 matches, there has been no evidence this will happen. Where will the goals and attacking football come from? Last year we were saved by three worse teams. This time, other clubs will be thanking the Lord we’re one of them. We look an absolute shoe in for relegation. Each week just confirms how bad our quality, management and now morale is. Made a catalogue of mistakes from the top downwards I’m sad to say. Not one. One! Of our big money signings has looked anywhere near good enough at this level and I don’t mean a flash of brilliance once every 76 games but consistently. Maybe one or two but a club like a Brighton simply cannot afford an entire flock of turkeys. But the biggest mistake of all was appointing Potter. Poor man looks completely out of his depth. He just doesn’t have enough experience and the players will be privately thinking this too.

Yes, futures looks good. However this won’t be in the PL, which isn’t the bee all and end all. And maybe we’ll come again and enjoy PL part 2. But the Championship takes no prisoners either and we’ll need experience as well as youth. Love to see us go down with a fight. Not like some skid mark hanging on that should have disappeared with the last flush.

I agree with your summary of the current situation except I am absolutely NOT loving it....in fact I'm fkucing hating it.

GP seems to me at the moment slightly in denial. Personally I think he needs to decide on a settled side and give them a run of games so they thoroughly understand each other.

I would start with the team that finished todays game but in a sense it doesnt matter as long as he settles on his own preferred 11 and sticks with them.

GP needs to pick what he thinks is his best team starting with the players he can`t leave out .Most posters think Alzate should always start ,i think he could play in the Stephens role .There must be 8 or 9 players that have to start surely .

I opened this for some positivity- what gives?

We controlled the game but struggled to break down a well organised team that were happy to sit back in a low block in order to restrict out chances. When they started to tire after 70 minutes or so, we created more and could have won it. Sure, we've played better, but I don't see why today's performance was an unmitigated disaster.

The doom merchants continue to say we're going down despite the fact that we're still out of the bottom 3. I'm not sure why they think the teams below us will outperform us over the rest of the season. Based on today's evidence, Watford aren't all that. We know that West ham, Villa and Bournemouth aren't either, plus Palace are on the slide.
