[Football] Poor old Bury

You have to feel for their fans. The excitement of promotion instantly tainted by finding out the players haven't been paid. Then the manager leaves, as do many of the players. Next, they get a 12 point deduction to start next season for going into administration (CVA).

Now they await a decision as to whether they will be kicked out of the league before the season even begins. Even if that doesn't happen, their fixtures could be suspended unless they can get security/safety clearance to play home games.

So think about that while moaning about the slow transfer window.

Its not just Bury with both Bolton and Macclesfield calling off friendlies as what players they have aren't willing to play in case they get injured having not been paid for sometime.

In the current climate where the PL teams are cash rich you just wonder how long the EFL can keep the 3 lower leagues going with 72 teams.
Will this be trimmed down and a return to regional leagues below the Championship in an effort to reduce costs for the more cash poor clubs.

And this just a couple of posts below Everton’s New Ground.

Something’s gone wrong, hasn’t it?

Meanwhile, Bury will be appearing as Plymouth Argyle this season, a lot of the formers’ players having signed for the latter.

Oh, and regional leagues are not allowed with Sunderland And Portsmouth in League One.

Regional leagues are the way forward - the cost of travelling could be a massive saving.

Perhaps a levy on all football transfers over a certain amount could go into a fund to at least ensure peoples wages were paid.
The amount of money required to save this old club from extinction is a pittance for most of the top clubs.

92 full-time clubs is a lot to have in such a small country. It's been a scrap at the bottom for a long time for clubs to try and balance the books but maybe something will need to be done to avoid such clubs over reaching and crippling themselves.

Jees, that's a promotion celebration that has fallen incredibly flat.

If Bury goes, another play off will have to happen for a team to replace them as their league will be one team short Shirley.

Good post. And of course it's not long ago that we were standing at the gates of oblivion with other clubs actually voting on whether to allow us to stay in the League. Really feel for the fans up there.

What happens if they do get expelled? Do Plymouth get their spot back in L1 and Notts County in L2?

Scrap obscene transfer fees and introduce a US style draft system where the best prospects looking for a move go to the lowliest clubs and vice versa, Wilfried Zaha to Newport County etc. while Leon Best goes to Man City

Wouldn’t surprise me if they closed everything down outside the top 6 in the Prem. It is way more palatable to the football authorities to make the rich richer rather than create a more financially equitable competition.
