It would seem that Peps status as the greatest manager to walk the earth ever-is again in serious doubt. Following the "City are back" comments by pundits and papers following the beating of a pretty bad Ipswich side, the failings have again been exposed for all to see. City are giving away 2 goal leads more regularly than us!

A truly "great" manager would have by now turned City around, or at least got them able to hold on to 2 goal leads.

Pep is a fantastic manager of successful teams and squads, but its starting to look that the man isn't as good when faced with that same squad regularly under performing.

I'm not sure that status is in doubt and ever will be. What he's achieved in terms of trophies is remarkable, but he's also changed the game completely. Could you have imagined non-league sides playing a possession based passing game 20 years ago?

There are however huge question marks about his ability to maintain his level over a sustained period of time in a way that the behemoths of a previous era (Wenger, Ferguson, Clough) did. He burned out after four years at Barca, he burned out after 3 years at Bayern and now he's been at City for 9 years. There has always been a question of when the end to his time at City will arrive and perhaps we've reached that point and unlike before, he's not seen the hints that it's time to walk away. He's taken City from one of the best sides in England to the best team in the world in a pretty relentless fashion over the longest tenure of his career. The new contract is bizarre, especially with Txiki Begiristain leaving his side, and having won everything possible at City. Where does he go from here?

FWIW, I'm thoroughly enjoying City finally faltering. I do think that Pep will either get through it and come back in his usual relentless fashion, or it'll be the end of his career. He's clearly been on the edge of a mental health crisis recently and with the reports that his wife has left him, you do wonder how much drive he's got left in him.
