I’ve asked approximately 20 or so people in the pub today if they thought it was a red. Not one of them thought it was. None of them Albion fans btw.

Haha that's why he changes his body position. He could have avoided the collision, but knows he doesn't have to...so it is really borderline. Anyone who has played sports will recognize that collision as such. Or they are particularly naive.T
That is complete and utter bollocks. He could just as easily have been seriously injured himself from his "accidental deliberate" collision... He was at full pelt and had nowhere to go!
Sounds like family fortunesI’ve asked approximately 20 or so people in the pub today if they thought it was a red. Not one of them thought it was. None of them Albion fans btw.
I'll agree to disagree then. Its all subjective, but as I said earlier, if that was Delap on Verbruggen (given that he was throwing himself around like a twat all night), its not a challenge I would have been happy with at all. It was only luck that it didn't result in something more serious. It's funny because I didn't see it as a red when it happened ... and neither did the ref or VAR. Pedro had eyes on the ball as he ran towards it. I don't think we'd be having the same debate if it was two outfield players going for a ball and colliding.
I get at least that many in the pub for any PL match that’s live tbh.You did well to find 20 non-Brighton supporters who watched the match!
If thats your take, then he was clearly out of control. Whatever way you splice it, IMO, he was fortunate it was only a yellow. No attempt to slow himself, well apart from the 9th to the start of the 11th second in the clip, where you can see he tries to slow himself and no longer sprinting flat out, and then the collision happens at almost the beginning of the 12 second (still the 11th, just) so i'm not sure how quickly you'd expect him to have been able to stop ?
You are going to have to start carding them.I get bumped like that all the time on the tube.
Conversely, I thought it looked like a shocker at the ground and every replay I saw on the way home made it look worse.I thought whilst watching it at the ground that there was a poor underhit backpass by the Ipswich defender and Pedro had every right to go for it and that both his and the keeper's momentum was always likely to result in a collision as both went for the ball.
Pedro then realised that he probably isn't getting there first or they will get there at the same time and it would be a heavy hit so tried to stop but was going to fast to be able to stop and avoid any collision so he's probably tried to minimise the collision and likely jumped to reduce the risk of injury to himself (aka taking action to protect himself such as trying to avoid studs getting caught in the turf when contact is made & lessen the impact on himself when as he knew he was about to get hit) rather than intending to cause injury to the keeper. (Which is probably what VAR and the ref decided happened too and why neither decided it was a red card offense)
At the time i thought it was a harsh booking (both players committed to try to win the ball and then one tried to stop but couldn't so tried to minimise it) but can see why a yellow was given but I didn't and still don't see it as a red card offense, but it's probably one of those where if it had been given by the ref, VAR wouldn't have overturned it either. (I suspect if a red was given, a lot would be calling it harsh, jusging that he was entitled to go for it due to the poor backpass and it was a natural coming together of 2 committed players trying to get on the end of it first)
I'd rather poke out my own eyes.Try X
I totally agree, if Delap had ploughed through Bart like that the bed wetting on here would go into overdrive, we and Pedro are lucky, he could have seriously injured Walton, and if he got sent off possibly could have cost us the game!I'll agree to disagree then. This was quoted earlier in the thread - by @Bozza I think - and people have commented on it. Just because he used to be a ref, his view carries no more weight than yours or mine. The only views that actually matter in the context of the game are the ref and VAR. They decided a a yellow was sufficient."This is a nailed on red card for serious foul play. He knows exactly what he's doing. This is a challenge with excessive force that endangers the safety of the goalkeeper. Referees should not await the outcome to see if the goalkeeper is injured or not. Totally unacceptable, and I would suggest that the referee and VAR require some operational advice".

Why is consensus important to you now when it wasn't after the elbow incident?Listening to the Football Ramble.
Consensus was not a red.
Funny that, I'd heard on here that all football fans were amazed, that Pedro had escaped life imprisonment.
You and me both.I'm stupidly still seething about that so not sure why I didn't include it!
