[Albion] Pedro's "challenge" on Walton

With my Brighton hat on why did Pedro chose to jump prior to the collision it made it look worse and he certainly clattered Walton (who had a good game) it definitely was a foul but not sure it was anything more than that.
With my imaginary Ipswich hat on it was a straight red how anyone would say differently is beyond my comprehension I have just had a look on the Brighton fans forum and some of the nobs on there just think it was just a booking.

I think the jump is the easiest bit to understand.

When keepers are pressured and looking to just get rid in that way, they normally sky the ball as they put everything into the clearance.

Attackers looking to charge down a keeper nearly always jump as they try to block the intended clearance, ideally diverting the ball straight into the goal.

On this occasion, however, Walton was playing a more measured ball out to his right, so there was no clearance to block.

It is clear he knew what he was doing. It was a classic "accidentally deliberately" not avoiding the big collision.

He has had a few recently that could easily have been red cards with a different referee. He is walking a fine line. Hopefully he calms down before he gets a reputation.

That is complete and utter bollocks. He could just as easily have been seriously injured himself from his "accidental deliberate" collision... He was at full pelt and had nowhere to go!

The closest people to the incident, who saw the events in 3d were the ref Pedro and 4 Brentford players.
Not 1 Brentford player appealed for anything, despite one of them, being "the target" .
Every one else has seen the footage on tv screens and come to a conclusion on what it Looks like.

I have never seen a group of opposition players completely ignore an opportunity to get an opposition player sent off.

This is all the evidence I need to summise there was no attempt to connect with an opponent

Why do people keep using Rugby as a comparison? The risk of serious injury in Rugby is far higher, hence the much stricter rules regarding contact.

Just my view, obviously ... but to me it looks like people are seeing what they want to see on both 'incidents'. I find all this negativity against Pedro quite bizarre. Neither were red ... in my book and also the ref's and VAR i.e. the ones that really matter.

Running full pelt and jumping at the keeper in an attempt to clatter him -red card.
Very lucky to avoid both.
He's quite mardy and salty at the moment is our JP.

I don’t really get what people want Pedro to do here- freeze in mid air? Contort his body and somehow dive sideways while on flight? He went for the ball, didn’t get there and then turned his body to avoid injury. If he’d have led with his arm then it would be a clear red card, but he didn’t.

The bloke's quick, but he's no road runner. Sto.pping on a dime would have caused him a lot of damage.

If his intent was to cause damage. Carrying on in a straight line would have been far more effective.

People are getting carried away with other people's narrative.

In my view last night's challenge could easily have been given as a red, but it wasn't intentional.
It makes no odds if it was or not of course, if the ref decides it warrants a red then fair dos.

However, there was absolutely no way that Pedro could avoid a big collision once Walton decided to play a clever pass.
Walton had three options

• Hoof it
• Dive on it
• Play a cute pass

Option 1 might have resulted in a goal, which would have been over-ruled because Pedro couldn't have avoided the collision
Option 2 would have led to Pedro jumping over Walton
Option 3 - well we've all seen it.

I'd be a bit miffed if that challenge was on Bart and no red for the opposition,Pedro was at full tilt but still had time to bail out I reckon, another ref would of seen it completely different and sent him off.

And trying to slow down would have resulted in a collision with legs in all manner of possible positions potentially causing worse injuries to both.

If I take my (metaphorical) blue and white striped sunglasses off, it’s a red card all day long.

However, when I put them back on, it becomes a clear 50/50 that JP was perfectly entitled to go for.

In fact I’m slightly outraged he was booked for it.

My take was he was trying to shrug the lads hand off his shoulder by throwing his arm back tbh. If he was trying to elbow him in the chops, I’m pretty sure he would of connected!
