All good, but what happened to Paul Winstanley ?

Laurence Stewart joined as Technical Director, which I think was the position Winstanley was rumoured to be wanted for, so it looks like if he goes it will be in a similar recruitment role. My guess is that he is trying to work out exactly what his role would be, and if it is a position that would disappear the minute they decide to boot Potter out, which I am starting to think is a real possibility if he doesn't get a squad he can rely on put together in January.

The more I see of Potter, the more I think he took the course because he doesn't have it naturally. Like someone that has been on an anger management course is usually someone that has had/has a problem managing their anger.

In fairness, it is a bit bizarre to imagine a master's degree on the same level as an anger management course.

For all my bitterness towards Potter, I don't think we ever even heard a murmur of discontent from the squad around how he worked with them on a personal level. He is clearly a very intelligent man, and he clearly has a really great understanding of how to work with people and get the best out of them on an emotional and professional level.

That doesn't mean that he even attempted to ingratiate himself with the fans on a wider level but perhaps that was on purpose. He clearly manufactured certain responses to help his stock rise in the media.

Yes, squad unity was great with potter - may possibly be improving with DeZerbi but time will tell. Potter was clearly very thin skinned though, as was evidenced during his time here (history lessons, don't shout shoot etc) and has increased (thinned??) since his departure. He clearly has a very high opinion of himself compared to our club, which is very disappointing as well as fundamentally wrong.

"I don't mean to sound harsh, but it didn't look like the players knew what they were doing" Can you imagine what a Tuchel, Klopp, Pep would have said to that? Agreed. Coming across as a rational, nice guy is not going to work in this situation. He needs to show a bit of fight. It's certainly true but Chelsea don't want to hear that Arsenal are better or that it's all part of the learning process. And a snide question like that needs to be slapped down I think.

Nice piece from Lallana on the Seagulls website today. Very open, transition to new ideas wasn't easy but now there's trust. I like Lallana, always seems to speak freely.

I agree. I must have been quite difficult for De Zerbi to take over a successful team and suggest changes let alone make them. It's not just the players though, I feel we are all now beginning to better understand RDZ and his approach to the game.

I think the players trusting De Zerbi and willingness to work with him is in no small part down to Potter and how he developed the players' mentality. I do think he left us in good shape.

Thinnly skinned perhaps... but if you come with the same accusation to the allegedly roughly skinned Sir Alex, or a fair number of other managers, you're never going to get the opportunity to talk with them again.

He’s going to be subject to a level of scrutiny he’s simply never experienced………the media top 6 obsession needs constantly feeding…….if the results don’t come he’s going to get an awful lot more of this kind of thing. Big test.

Yes it is, but truthfully, you tend not to take a course on a subject you think you already have down. There is a difference also in knowing something and doing something, I could have a masters in Nutrition but still eat junk food. I don't think Potter always shows his education in his public communications, one to one he might be masterful.
