It would be if I believed it happened.

He asked me one day if I could make him an sandwich. I said sorry the kitchen was closed. He got really grumpy so I said to him do an autograph for my barmaid and I’ll make him a sandwich. He said he doesn’t do autographs so I said I don’t make sandwiches when the kitchen’s closed.

I know Heather’s brother Shaun and the stuff he said he used to do was horrendous.

Heather still owns a mansion in the village though hasn’t lived there for a number of years.
Their daughter used to go to Battle Abbey School

Probably because the telephone call went something like this...

"Paul we would love you to play Glastonbury"
Paul - "Ok, on five conditions"
1: I get paid the most.
2: I headline.
3: I have a 50 strong backing band, to drown out my singing.
3: You supply copious amounts of burgundy hair dye.
4: I have the biggest winnebago, that has lots of lovely tartan blankets because my legs get cold in the evenings.
5: No fireworks before or after I play, they make me jump now.

All good fun I know, but take a look at the 'Best Song today' thread and watch/listen to him and Springsteen play 'I Wanna Be Your Man'. He's in pretty good voice, looks in pretty good shape, his hair looks pretty good and he and the band rocks. A contender for best singer/songwriter/musician/arranger in popular music ever. He's hardly going to settle for less than top of the bill and yes, he's enough of a draw that I'd go to see him if I did festivals. He's not what he was at 22 when he was undeniably one of the four most popular musical stars on the planet, but he still rocks. I hope I look that good at 80.

Different generations my son and a group of his friends are off to Glastonbury this weekend, and will not be watching McCartney on Saturday night.
In fact everyone I've mentioned all I get as a response was 'Thought you would mention them, but no we're giving them a miss'

So never liking music that your parents like would seem to still be alive and kicking.

Sad that this thread has rather de-railed a tribute to one of our few surviving National Treasures, watched McCartney At The BBC on sunday and it was very enjoyable, I had forgotten how good he was...( Mostly !)

Why would Paul McCartney turning 80 necessarily generate an NSC thread?

I can understand why Glastonbury have booked him - but I don't particularly support him being given the Saturday night Pyramid Stage headline slot.

Could say that about a lot of threads IMO, particularly the political ones….

he was waiting for a Stella

His ex wife Heather can certainly drink, I don’t know where she puts it…she must have hollow legs.

The man tried to get the Beatles song writing credits changed to McCartney/Lennon after John's death on the songs that he said he had the most input on

Tells you all you need to know about him imo

Answering the question posed by Mejona above. My daughter was on a school trip to a London Art Gallery when she was 12 or 13 and one of her friends saw McCartney and Heather Mills in the gallery and asked him for his autograph. He told her to **** off and not bother him on a day out with his wife. Is that arrogant enough for you?

Yes, the credit thing....narcissistic old ****.

For those of you who think he's such a national treasure, and especially those of you ex-service people who did a stint in Belfast back in the day, here is Sir Fool doing his bit for the union.

Still doing shows?

Should be tucked up watching Countdown rather than regurgitating The Frog Chorus in front of the masses.

Know when to quit mate.....

Headlining Glasto, one of our finest musicians but now past it.

Remember when he performed 10 years ago at the London Olympics and it was a bit embarrassing...

My mate Bob the retired social worker saw the Beatles (in various incarnations) perform at the Caven more than 20 times in the early 60s, and he says McCartney was always shitehouse.

It's going to happen sooner or later, and, it will be our government which will hasten it rather than Paul McCartney.

The Cavern moved on in 1973, Macca should have done likewise.

Shitehouse or not, he wrote a couple of catchy melodies but that's about it.

I was making reference in point of fact to the depths of vacuity in the Macca Ouvre. If you recall how the troubles started, initially the troops were sent in to protect the Catholics from sectarian attacks by Protestants (triggered by 'outrages' such as allowing Catholics to be employed by big employers such as Shorts that traditionally goave jobs to loyalists only). Due in part to the Catholics (and IRA of course) turning against the soldiers, and the loyalists and soldiers finding they had common cause, within months the landscape had completely changed. At no point in this narrative was giving Ulster to Eire ever anything more than simplistic waffle. Pub talk. Not even that - fifth form common room talk. Hippy talk, maaaan. Listen to the track. It's a typical Macca nursery rhyme, full of platitudes, but the 'message' is so out of kilter with reality, and with that nursery rhyme tune, it is actually shocking.
