I've either missed the thread, or Sir Macca's 80th passed NSC by.

Anyway, nice collection of songs put together by The Guardian. I created a Spotify playlist to the 30 tracks listed as a listenable collection of his post Beatles work.

Peter Jackson's 'Get Back' casts McCartney in a very different light to a modern generation, and showed a motivated driven songwriter somewhat desperate to keep his band together. He headlines Glastonbury this year in what will surely be a massive celebration of his contribution to music.

If you were going to take the back catalogue of just 1 artist to a desert island – not a bad one to consider.

I see a GB News Tweet went viral a couple of days ago. Something trailing their program with acting legend Daniella Westbrook, pop legends Right Said Fred and a discussion about Paul McCartney at 80 - is he past it?

Why would Paul McCartney turning 80 necessarily generate an NSC thread?

I can understand why Glastonbury have booked him - but I don't particularly support him being given the Saturday night Pyramid Stage headline slot.

I can understand why Glastonbury have booked him - but I don't particularly support him being given the Saturday night Pyramid Stage headline slot.

Probably because the telephone call went something like this...

"Paul we would love you to play Glastonbury"
Paul - "Ok, on five conditions"
1: I get paid the most.
2: I headline.
3: I have a 50 strong backing band, to drown out my singing.
3: You supply copious amounts of burgundy hair dye.
4: I have the biggest winnebago, that has lots of lovely tartan blankets because my legs get cold in the evenings.
5: No fireworks before or after I play, they make me jump now.

My daughter was on a school trip to a London Art Gallery when she was 12 or 13 and one of her friends saw McCartney and Heather Mills in the gallery and asked him for his autograph. He told her to **** off and not bother him on a day out with his wife. Is that arrogant enough for you?

Funny the stories about McCartney being this and that. Mine is the total opposite, I know someone here in Eastbourne who used to own a studio (he's retired now and sold it off but it is still here) and among other noteables, McCartney used it on a number of occasions and according to my friend, he was incredibly down to earth, friendly and polite. Pay yer money and takes yer choice.

After decades of fans asking for autographs, and now selfies, I would possibly try to create some spaces near my home where I could go without having to talk to every Tom Dick and Harry. I probably wouldn't try to milk my fame into my old age though.
