As sad as it will be to say goodbye, this is the right time for both him and the club.

I looked at his whoscored ratings for last season, which show that his level definitely dropped towards the end of the season. He may have been saving himself for the Euros, but at 33 his best years are behind him and a shiny new £30m+ replacement will soften the blow.

Think he might have another season or two in him, but at 33 his best is behind him. We're just bloody lucky that it was with us.

Should he go, which is looking likely, now is probably the right time.

Shouldn't they be talking to us first? "Final decision has been made"? Not if we decide to keep him, it hasn't. He's under contract.

We could have given them permission to speak to him and then we figure out the finances after.
