Football is full of cycles mate.
They won last night and deserved to. End of really.
We look to next year and look to build again. As long as the club is managed well we will hopefully be in the premiership soon and when we do we will be ready.

I actually don't ask for too much. Simply perform to the maximum on the pitch bearing in mind the budget/players available (which this season was definitely top two, although I appreciate it may well not be next season) and treat the club with the respect it deserves. I really can't see how he's defended on either issue.

No, what you are asking is perform to what you see as the maximum on the pitch. That is very different. You seem to come from the view that not winning the league every year is a failure and look what that attitude has done to bigger clubs than us e.g. Chelsea, who change manager constantly.

We finished 4th which is probably higher than our budget is compared to other teams in the division. Granted last night was a let down but it was a one off match.

He could think before speaking at times but he has brought a lot to the club.

Pound for pound, the greatest achievement in my time watching the Albion (1995-2013) was Mark McGhee keeping us in the Championship. That proves I'm not just demanding we win the league every season.

However, when we have numerous internationals and players with Champions League experience lining up for us in the second division, I'm entitled to expect a bit more than a meek surrender against our rivals in knockout tournament we should never have even needed to go up. You don't need to change manager constantly if you employ the right one, but until you do there will be a string of disappointments along the way, as we are finding out.

I'm going to give up arguing about Gus as we clearly are not going to agree. I will agree on McGhee keeping us up being an amazing achievement. Look what happened to him though. We lost a lot of players, didn't replace them, McGhee got sacked due to fan pressure and is still regarded as a failure by a lot of fans.

I agree with the OP. If only there was some sort of barometer where all the teams at the same level played each other twice, home and away, and thus decided the order in which teams were ranked.

Imagine if there was and we finished above Palace two years in a row. Then we would know we have the upper hand for the time being.

Unfortunately, I know not of any such ranking system.

Palace fan here, I don't agree we'll always have the upper hand...you guys are a club on the up and achieved a lot in a short space of time. You are greared for the Premieship and it will happen, not convinced about Poyet as a manager but you have everything else in place.

As for last night, there is a very fine line between success and failure, if that Barnes chance went in you and not hit the post you would be going to Wembley. Football is cruel but we've been on the wrong end many times. Good luck for next season...and by the way sort those stupid clapper things out, last night your good support was made to look tin pot with those things and the stupid hats. Real fans don't mess with that crap

sort those stupid clapper things out, ..... Real fans don't mess with that crap

I agree. I found I wanted my team to score less when I picked my clapper up. I was no longer a real fan.

In fact, I wasn't even bothered we lost, such was my lack of fanship.

I agree with all of the above, and it was said by a Palace fan.

The difference is they've been in this league a long time, we're still new to it. Since our "reboot" our record against them is W1, D2 L3 which is pretty shocking.

That is a top post...thought the 'clappers' drowned out the real support...the singing...Palace deserved their win....they wanted it much more than us....thought our passing was atrocious tonight...normally we string a lot of passes together...last night we were lucky if we got three right....we looked a tired worn out team.

How many points a season do they get you?

Fans? Do you mean the ones who stayed to the end or the ones who left with 10 minutes to go with it all to play for?

Do you know it is a funny thing this fans leaving early business, it happens at every ground in the country, even Smelhurst.
The thing is though it is far more noticeable when a ground is full to start with, you start to see empty seats appear, but when the ground is half empty at the start as is the norm at Smelhurst, it is not as obvious that people are sneaking out. But as a sensible fellow you are, you will understand that it is far better to have half a 30k crowd at the end, than even a 1k early leavers of the 15k at Smellhurst. Another thing that may appeal to your directors, 30k fans do have to pay to get in as opposed to your 15K and no one has to pay for leaving early. Funny that isn't it.
