I suppose that given how expensive it is to live in London it's not really surprising. I would assume that Chelsea and Arsenal don't have this problem with all their plastics.
Also with Croydon being the London cultural borough, there were probably a lot of other artistic things for the South Londoners to visit on a Wednesday night.

Can I suggest that despite all the early season banter Palace probably have as good a chance of making Europe as we do?

I am not having that, in sept / October I was reading post after post about how this year palace were definitely going down with the worst squad that’s ever played in the premier league!

Depends how you define chance.
If it's a percentage based on likelihood of getting a certain number of points, no they don't. We have 4 more points off fewer games.

If it's a straight split of likely, unlikely, no chance,, then yes we are both on the border of unlikely/no chance.

You may want to re-read the post you're replying to.

Lose tonight and the meltdown on here starts….we ARE a team that struggles to put other PL teams away, hoping it changes tonight and the process comes of age.

I don't think so. If you take Brighton, when I was first going away in the late 80s / early 90s we used to take about 150 / 200 up north and 95% of them would be the same people most weeks. London typically 1000 - 1500. We took a good proportion away for the league we were in from the gory days. Either people protesting, huge games like Hereford, or, later, because people preferred aways to Gillingham. Then we were suddenly 'big fish' in League 2 under DK. I can remember us taking over 500 to Darlington in League 2 and me being seriously worried about getting in our end.

Since then we've had a good away support. Probably easier to get tickets in the Championship but big away ends would always sell out. 3000 at Charlton for one of Hughton's first games in a grim season and probably 6000 odd at Fulham with the neutral end and 7000 away at MK Dongs. And we still sell out most of our away allocations today, albeit sometimes the club take a smaller one - for example at Newcastle. Still over 2k there though.

So we've gone from basically a meeting place for the same 100 or so lunatics to a much debated points system in around 35 years.
I was one of those 200/300 and had the best of times.
The away support started gaining numbers at Withdean probably because the home games didn’t feel like going to a football match.

Some people are being a bit silly on this thread.

And it's not those taking the piss out of Palace's shit support.

If we can't take the piss out of palace then what's the point of any kind of rivalry?!

They like to pretend they've got great fans, an incredible atmosphere and are the envy of the league. In fact, they're tinpot, nobby no mates that everyone laughs at. And they've consistently shown how shit their support is year after year. Group on anyone?

The numbers they get in the championship are sad half the support fucks off until they reach the playoffs 🤣

Palace are not well supported at all. I work in Croydon and barely anyone there supports Palace.
I live in Southwark and there are loads of Palace. The ironic thing is most of them are newbie fans who go because its the closest place to take their kids for Prem football.

I assume the irony youa re referring to, is that is similar to what happened when the Amex opened.
To which, Palace consider all of our "new" fans as being Chelsea fans who can't be arsed to go to Stamford Bridge.

Thread title is misleading as the away attendance was just over 1500 last night.

Source is my work colleague who also works as a steward at both the King Power and the Leicester Tigers home ground.

I was going to ask where you could find away attendance figures as I'm sure they used to publish them. I can't find them anywhere so it seems that you need to know someone working at the club!

I would be interested to read those quotes, I haven't seen them.
