Hardly.

A ticket to an away game is 30 quid. Cost is no excuse for having bad away support.

Like I said, if you look at that logically it's a table of how small your own away end is. Bournemouth can take 3000 to Man U. Man U can only take 1100 to Bournemouth. Bournemouth cannot take 1100 to Bournemouth.

It's also from 2022/23. When this season's stats come out they'll include your travel to Leicester and Villa.

Not that I go away so don’t really have a dog in this fight.

I stopped going to away games about half way through are first premier season as I noticed that they seem to attract cocked up knobheads.

I preferred Bansley away when 400 or 500 travelled much more fun.

In fairness you only have a few hundred going to northern away games now. You might enjoy it more than you think

But doesn’t the article start with

Away games really pinpoint how well supported clubs are when playing on the road. The 2023/24 season highlights some interesting points:

  • Luton Town surprisingly tops the away attendance chart with an average of 40,326. This could be attributed to their unique journey back to the top flight, which has drawn significant attention.
  • Crystal Palace (39,471) and Burnley (39,394) follow closely, demonstrating strong away support despite not being among the league’s traditional giants.

Yeah it starts with that, but the author doesn't understand the data.
The maximum away support for a premier League game is 3k and yet they report they average away support as ten times that figure.

Poor reporting

I suspect they may be a Palace fan and has run away with the idea, that their away support isn't as poor as we all know it to be.

Again, what do Luton, Burnley and Palace have in common? Small away allocations in their own grounds. And, in your case, a good proportion of those are RV due to the roof and poles in the Arfur so your own away end won't always be full. It really is explained that simply, which is why the big clubs who have bunfights over every away game are bottom.

Strange all these people with excuses isn't it !! I'm not the best fan but I don't make excuses when I don't go.

If you really wanna go you will go.
Yeah this.

Most clubs only need 1 in 10 season ticket holders to want to go to an away match, to take a decent number away.
It really shouldn't be that hard.

Palace don't like being called out on this, but it is a fairly widely accepted truth.
Palace fans don't travel in numbers, outside of London.

That's the average attendances in full for when that side is playing away from home. Are you actually saying we bought 771,220 to our 19 away games last season?

TBF, this is not to do with away allocations or followings. It is a nonsense statistic of the average TOTAL ATTENDANCE at away games played by each club.

Presumably a simple close to -1.00 correlation between this statistic and home stadium size. It should be called the "Noddy Index".

Not surprising that Palace fans are thick enough to misunderstand.

It isn't actually the away end that is the issue with these shite stats.
It's the total capacity.

The stats are taking the total capacity for every away game each team has played and dividing by 19,
Therefore the clubs with bigger stadiums miss out on their capacity in the total Volume used for the calculation.

The difference between Palace and United in these stats is (74k - 26k)
This is because United have to include Selhurst in their stats.
48k/19 is an additional 2.5k on Palaces "average".

Stupid meaningless stat.

How about having better things to do with your money ? Is that a good excuse ?

Are we all to be away fans now ? What's the official club line ? Only me nerdish pursuit takes up a lot of the day and I like to settle down in the evening with a nice cup of tea. I couldn't do it full time.

You seem to be getting very defensive on this one.
No problem with any individual fan not wanting to spend their hard earned on away games.

However, there is a bit of mileage to be had, when the self-appointed "Best fans in the Premier League", can't rustle together 5% of their home attendance, to travel a couple of hours up country, to support their team.

I think this is a good reminder that Palace have repeated the same cycle for over a decade now on the pitch and that is starting to show in the stands. Bad start to the season, followed by a solid recovery and then just wandering to mid-table obscurity for another year. Rinse and repeat. Opta are saying there is a 1.68% chance of relegation, and 0% chance of Europe this season.

We have shown ambition, and continue to do so, where they've completely stagnated as a club and I can completely understand why there would be a lack of enthusiasm when progression is not a priority. Their run at the end of last season was obviously not sustainable for a whole campaign, and whilst I'm sure none of their fans would actively complain at yet another 12th place finish, it's easy to understand why they wouldn't be that excited for their 10th Premier League trip to Leicester on a cold night in January with nothing much to play for.
