You took my whole rather tongue in cheek post far, far too seriously and too personally - didn’t the big balls cartoon give you a clue? 😂

Of course I’m not confused about the difference between the team and the fans - I was referring to us the fans as the Brighton ‘side’ in a purely tribal sense v Palace fans not in the literal sense of the team itself - so thanks for the patronising and unnecessary clarification.

Secondly my first Albion game was in 1967 and I have supported Brighton ever since - so I have no idea what the rest of your post has to do with anything.

Neither of us want to lose - the only difference between you and me in this hypothetical scenario, is that I want a win more than you want to avoid a loss.

I refuse to settle for a point at home when we can beat them.
Fair points - on rereading my reply it comes across as more combative than I intended, too. It’s Palace games, they put me right on edge!

No, after the disappointment of the last few games we need a win. I'll be gutted if we draw.

My heart says we will take our our frustrations of recent weeks out on them and ride out another comfortable win but my head says we are in for another cagey, stressful and painful 1-1

Settling for a point v Palace at the Amex would represent settling for a one-way ticket to mid-table mediocrity and half a season of essentially dead rubbers. Let's not even go there

Seriously, get a grip people.

This Palace bullshit has always mystified me. They’re just another rival team in the division, a bit like Bournemouth or Forest.

The only team I get agitated about is Chelsea.

We're a better side than Palace. I fully expect us to beat them. It’s incredibly embarrassing to think of any set of rival fans reading all this stuff about us crapping our pants about playing them. Bring it on, I say. I’m hugely looking forward to the game and am certain we will win.

Did you go to any Palace games in the 70’s/early 80’s?

I'm not sure I've missed 2 consecutive games in any season the past few years and generally that means any lows have a high relatively soon after, but this is the last one I'll see this season before Ipswich on Jan 16th so I'd be desperate for a win whether it was Palace or not, but especially because it's Palace. The thought of going into an extended absence with my most recent memories of the season being the Southampton disappointment, the rainy self-inflicted defeat at Fulham and the collapse at Leicester...grim!

No, before my time. I’m aware of the Mullery-Venables thing but FFS that was 50 year

Yes, a long time ago, however, if you had been to those games you will understand where the hatred comes from. Any tinpot distaste for Chelsea is a recent and totally irrelevant rivalry compared to Palace.

People who want the result before the game should be banned from watching any kind of professional sports.

Can't handle excitement and disappointment? Maybe go into philately or something instead.

Getting a vibe from the thrice quote!!

It's taken me 8 years but it's finally sinking in how HUGE the rivalry/derby is between BHAFC & the club that shall not be named.

People wonder why the atmosphere is crap, when people don’t understand any history of the club. Disliking Chelsea more, get a grip, no understanding of the history of the club. Completely embarrassing post of the highest order.

Palace are very weak when attacked down the left hand side crack that and it’s cricket scores, try and break them through the middle and it’s nil nil with Albion having 65% plus possession. Take a point now, you bet !

I get that you don’t get it, and I like to think we’re better than them too. I certainly don’t expect everyone to share my personal viewpoint about Brighton-Palace.

But. Those Palace fans who DO get it will be just as nervy as us and if you genuinely think any of us who care, on either side, is “crapping our pants” I think you’ve kind of missed how this works. And if you feel “incredibly embarrassed” and are more concerned about Chelsea, then fair play to you. But I would just say, good luck with that. I wonder how Chelsea fans feel about your rivalry with them.

Right, off to get a grip, change my pants and try not to show us all up in front of the Chelsea. At my age, it makes a change from wondering if I’ve left the house without trousers, I suppose.

I get your loathing of Chelsea too. Got quite a few Palace mates who are decent football blokes. Know a few Chelsea fans who are all knobs. However, I’m also of a vintage that means I’ve lived our wildly misunderstood rivalry since Mullery lobbed his coins on the floor at, ironically, Stamford Bridge. Home and away until the 89 penalty-fest at Smellhurst; when football violence was real and nasty. I don’t HATE Palace anymore (too much hate in the world) but would I take a point against our fiercest rivals - nah, f*** that.
